Bottle #18752
Best by 4/2021

Appearance - hazy golden color with white head

Smell - limes, lemon, ginger, coriander, clove, brett funk

Taste - limes, lemon, green apple, ginger, coriander, clove, brett funk

Mouthfeel - medium bodied, full carbonation, citrus upfront, spices in the middle, brett funk at the back end, refreshing and crisp, a bit tart/sour

Overall - very good Saison here, each sip gives off a different experience. Complex flavour. Recommended. It is a tad pricy, tho.

Price Point - $6.99/12.7 oz bottle

375 ml bottle poured into a tulip

Pours a hazy golden orange with a bright white full, creamy head, lots of carbonation and lacing. Barnyard funk, wet horse blanket, hay, yeast, apricot, peaches, very aromatic, soft touch of bread malts. Like the nose, slight funk notes, wet hay, earthy, herbal notes, lemon peel, finish is very dry with lingering notes of lemon and fruity vitamins, spice and pepper notes as the beer warms, very complex with lots of depth, great beer. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a creamy texture and lots of carbonation popping on the palate.

Overall: I really enjoyed this beer, going to have to pick up some of their other beers, has the classic saison notes with the brett that adds a nice touch of funk, very drinkable and smooth.

Pours a turbid orange color. 3+ fingers of head. Unfortunately, this beer was a gusher, and I lost close to have of the 7$ bottle. For this reason, I am not extremely happy with the beer.

Aroma is complex! Belgian spice, pear juice, a little bit of funk, and a nice pepperiness.

Taste is highly carbonated, which I actually love in a saison. I get a large amount of yeast character. The beer has dried out nicely. Some Belgian character and some generic light citrus notes. A little more funk and a slight woodiness.

Overall, I enjoyed this beer. Is it worth seven dollars for a small bottle (especially if it commonly gushes)… No. There are many other wild farmhouse ales that compete, but this is a very solid offering. Pairs nicely with a charcuterie plate. It gets a 90/100.

Bottle Date: April 2016
Palate Contaminants: other beer

Plenty of head. I'm glad it didn't fizz out. Opaque straw color. At least the foam develops into a nice pillow.

The smell is clearly a brett beer. It has that tamale cornmeal scent, along with candy canes. It's really not bad, even though those things don't seem to mesh.

The sweetish candy flavors are much more forward on the tongue. The main fruit flavors I get are golden raisins, and then something in between honeydew melon and starfruit. I guess one could also say fruit tree flowers. All wrapped in one of those sweet corn tamales. There might even be a bit of cooked, sweet pears and apples at the center of it all. It also seems to be more lactic than I usually get in sours.

I really like how mellow the aftertaste is. Every good flavor hangs around. There's a good deal of carbonation, but it's smooth.

Golden yellow in color. Bit of a gusher. Pear, granny smith apples, lemon and some funk. Brett is balancing out and complimenting everything. Really really good.

Straw, lemony, cloudy with lots of carbonation, topped with 1 finger of off white head.

Smells of Brett, lemon, lemon zest, phenols and fruitiness. Very Belgian smell to it.

Brett all over, only a hint of sweetness, a fair amount of tartness. Lemon and lemon zest, and slightly puckering bitterness. The fruitiness and Belgian yeast qualities all come through on the palate.

Medium body, slightly gelatinous, jammy, with champagne like carbonation. Finishes dry and tannic.

Excellent brew. The best Brett bolstered brew I've ever had from the USA, now second in my book to Orval. Got in California near Sacramento, in Davis Whole Foods. Very enjoyable and complex brew. Drank in Chiang Mai, Nov 29th, 2016.

Poured a burnt orange color with just under two fingers worth of bubbly white head that disappears quickly. The nose has some lemon upfront with some funk from the brett. The taste is a little more earthy and spicy than the nose. You definitely get the brett in the flavor as well. The feel is medium with a good amount of carbonation, very effervescent. This is an outstanding saison! The flavor has a lot of complexity and the nose is wonderful.

750mL bottle into a tulip
Best before: 03/2019 (thus I believe 2014 vintage)

A: Opens up as an absolute gusher (even though it has been resting undisturbed for several weeks). Gushes for close to 10min would be my guess. Once the gushing subsides, it pours a clear, dark straw yellow with a large 3 fingers width of bright white head. Leaves tons of lacing. 4.5

S: Very nice aroma. Tons of fruity esters, Brett is certainly noticeable but its not super funky (in a good way to me). Somewhat floral and subtle tart notes. I little bit of spice and the subtlest of booze. Incredible complexity. Just a fantastic nose. 4.75

T: Fruity esters, pretty big amount of spice, subtle floral notes. Funk notes are present throughout, but not dominating. A bitterness ligers along with the fruity characters at the end of each sip. 4.25

M/D: Fuller body for the style, carbonation is huge-almost over carb’d if thats possible for this style, ABV is well masked, drinkability is good. 4

O: Overall, an excellent Saison. One of the better ones I’ve had from the US. Worth seeking out if you are a fan of the style. 4.25
