A: Beautiful golden honey color. Small one finger white head.

S: I got a ton of lemon and orange citrus aromas, a very sweet funk smell, not overwhelming at all very pleasant.

T: Wow did I enjoy this. A nice lemon tartness up front almost immediately followed by that very pleasant brett funk flavor, its in your face but at the same time its not. On the back end you get a lot more of that citrus flavor with a nice malt backbone.

MF: Very crisp and sharp with a nice dry finish. Extremely smooth.

O: This is up there with some of the best saisons and being a true farmhouse ale I am thoroughly impressed by this beer. Citrus and funk with a smooth crisp finish. I will buy this again.

A: Pours a clear, but opaque honey color, with a white ring of head.

S: Funky Belgian yeast, coriander, cardamom, nutmeg and tropical fruit in the nose.

T: More funky yeast, more spices and more tropical fruit.

M: Light bodied and fairly smooth.

O: A really tasty, fairly uncharacteristic saison.

I purchased this at whole foods in Fremont, enjoyed chilled in a tulip.

The color is golden with light haze and thick three finger white head with visible carbonation and lots of lace. The smell is great -tons of tropical fruit light pineapple and subtle funk with mild herbal acommpaniement with slight grainy floral and citrus juicy aroma. The feel is excellent with lots of bretty texture and medium carbonation with slight herbal and spiced quality mild alcohol and nice dry finish.

The flavor is very good with great brett which is tropical and fruity bringing a juicy and earthy flavor with light spice and citrus tanginess almost grapefruity with mild zest and light hint of pepper in the very dry finish with a mild hop and alcohol taste. Overall I really enjoyed this, I was wishing I could have gotten more, the brett character is excellent and this is perhaps one of the best bretted saisons I have had recently. I recommend this highly.

After uncapping, foam started oozing from the bottle, but at a controllable rate; pours into a frizzy snow-white head that soon settles down. Brew is hazy and golden, nearly opaque. Head retention is fantastic. Fair amount of small particles cling to the glass. Very slight lines of lacing.

Citrus, funk, and surprisingly sweet on the aroma. Slightly sharp and tart, with hints of straw, wheat, banana, lemon, berries, and only a bit of funk.

Sharp, funky taste: Brett right up front, followed smoothly by sweet and clean citrus notes. Big body of wheat and pale malts. Delicate and well-balanced.

Slightly sharp on the tongue, very smooth in the mouth; long semi-dry finish. Begs for another sip.

This is a funky American Saison that is worth the hype. I think this is truly one of the best Saisons I have ever tasted. Complex and funky, but sublimely smooth and eminently drinkable.

The liquid itself is par for the course...a pale orange/nectarine color with tiny, tiny little floaties in it. However, the head is pretty spectacular. Bright, brilliant white, meringue-like shape. Starts off a finger and a half thick with above average retention. The thinnest of spotty lacing.

Really, an amazing smell with the Brett yeast doing what it does best...providing an unequaled combo of funky, dank fruit and spicy yeast. With Brett, you don't need much more.

Very complex taste profile with too many fruits to count, all blended nicely with just a slight bit of spice for balance.

Unlike a lot of other saisons, this beer doesn't shock your palate with an ending of spice that's too spicy. It starts off sweet, acidic and fruity and then transitions to just enough spice to take the edge off. This is what separates this beer from others...there's just enough spice to transition from sweet to spicy. It never does what most saisons do and bring far too much spicy heat to the party. Light- to medium-bodied. The highish ABV is not noticeable.

This is a really good beer that's extremely easy to drink. The Brett is amazing, as usual. Most of the time I don't care for beers that are subtle, but this is one exception.

750 ml poured into a SN tulip.

A: Medium carbonation and very clear. Pale yellow with a thin slight off white head that looks like it will lace nicely.

S: A very spicy, earthy nose with slight boozie sweetness. Very spicy hops in the aroma dominate.

T: Ok, this is where things got interesting. Huge Brett character that mingle very well with the nose but strangely different. Nice fruit from the yeast with balanced yeast spice. Booze does some through in the taste but definitely not hot at all. Nice hop bite as well. The nose creeps up on the taste after taking a sip. Lingering sweetness remains and eventually it does start to get a little warm from the 8 % abv. Its not that high of an abv hut must have fermented hot to get the yeast fruitiness to where its at.

M: Yeast spice and hop spice mingle and definitely make themselves present between sips. Alcohol does bring some warmth but only after a bit. Not something I would like to drink on a hot summer day, unlike Fantome Saison.

O: A decent example of a Brett inoculated saison but the alcohol bite and huge hop spice is a little too much. I actually have a non-Brett home brewed saison at this abv and made with huge amounts of EKG hops and I have a similar problem. In fact, it tastes almost identical minus the Brett tropical fruit flavors. Glad I tried it tho.

The aroma has fruity Brett notes of tropical, grapefruit, and pineapple. A hay funk from the Brett.

The flavor follows with that wonderful fruit flavor in the front of pineapple and mango. Then onto a funk quality that transitions quite aggressively towards metallic flavors or copper.

The finish is dry. A slightly disappointing brew.

Poured a nice cloudy golden color with a thin white head. Very true to style for a saison, quite nice. Scents of sour brett yeast, apricot, fruity esters and some spicy Belgian yeast. Despite the sour overtones there is a nice underlying frutiness that is the hallmark of a good saison. Very nice, wild, yet very much a saison. Flavor is quite sour upfront with a lemony character alongside sour green apple and green grape skin. In the middle the sourness continues but hints of pepper are also present. Finish is dry and sour with some slightly grainy notes. Aftertaste is sour brett yeast and lemon. A very good, sour saison with a large amount of sourness, yet still with the backbone of the style present. Very nice. Mouthfeel is medium-light bodied with moderate carbonation and a drying feel. Good, true to style and quite nice. Overall this is an excellent sour saison that provides a good wild sour ale but also an excellent saison. The flavors, aroma and mouthfeel mingle to make this one quite enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Poured from the 375ml bottle into a tulip glass. Bottle No. 1459, Best by Dec 2018.

A slightly muddy body color and appearance, but nice orange and peach apricot colors. Slightly bright towards the edges. Head is very creamy, makes an easy three fingers of bone white colored head, and faint pill like clumping lacing on the glass. Reams and reams of side rising ultra slow carbonation white speckeled in abundance.

Nose is very balanced and subtle but real nice. Peach like fruit, dry brett but not overly hot or powerful. It's a very unique aroma that is hard to describe, part of that takes my score down since it feels so indistinct and unfamiliar. It's very impressive, but doesn't blow my mind.

Oh wow is this palate shocking. Completely unexpected hinting from the nose what is coming. An unbelievably creamy mouthfeel, with juiced fruit matching peach senses from the aromas. Vanilla cream and silky tones. Incredible fruit juiced mid palate of peaches, apricots, nectarines, the whole range of stone fruit like variety just bursting, juice and much skin rough tannic and flavors. Mild dry finish, but not overly peppery if at all. When I dunked the last of the dregs in, then there was more dryness and funk obviously, but took away from much of the fruit flavors.

Overall just keripes wow a fantastic saison. It's pear juice?... woah, that explains the green like skin I get perhaps. I think the only thing that doesn't make me score this higher is that it doesn't "quite" remind me of a classic big "brett" saison.

Dark yellow, clear. Good head.

Subtle pleasant scent. Light piquancy. Fruit. Hint of acid.

Gorgeous, clean, gentle. Peaches, floral yeast, green apples. Vaguely tart. Exceptional. Certainly the best saison I've tasted.

Clean and pleasant.

All time highlight. Sublime beer. Highly recommended. Will have again.

A- Pours a very hazy, medium orange in color. A decent sized head of about 2 fingers in thickness forms and retains very well. Sticky and thick lacing is prominent on the glass as the drink goes down. The color of this drink is rather brilliant and stunning.

S- Lots going on in the scent here. Starts off light and rather fruity, as well as grainy and just a bit tart. Really a good combination of funky and fruity through the middle and end of the scent, with the pear showing its scent.

T- Starts off dry and very grainy. Flavors of dry wheat and other grains combine with yeast and funky brett flavors before the fruit and slight tart flavor kicks in towards the end. Pear is light and a little sweet, and it gets balanced out by a slight tart flavor towards the end. Lingering flavor is of wheat and funk.

M- This is pretty thick with grain and yeast, providing an overall smooth feel on the tongue. Alcohol is not detectable, but will catch up to you after a glass or so. Moderately filling, but still easy to drink overall.

Overall, this is a unique take on a brett saison. The pear provides a fruitiness and juiciness that is not always found in a saison, and the brett gives an overall dry flavor character to the drink.

Maybe they aren't exactly brewing beside the chickens or fermenting underneath the goats, but Logsdon Farmhouse Ales is "putting the farm back in farmhouse" with an authentic tasting saison that's just... well, peachy!

Seizoen Bretta taunts the nose with musty fruit, salty character and quasi-barnyard tone. Though tarter scents speak to dried lemon and other citrus, other and more earthen character of old wood, wine cork and the musken scent of sea air.

Yet on the palate, the distinctive ale is tart, dry and playfully acidic; showing off its wine-like tone. Though the mustiness of old and dried citrus play out on the middle, those rustic leather and horse hair character is absent. With the peach fruitiness and subtle sweetness, its briny taste evokes notions of saltwater taffy.

Closing with a powdery dryness and wafts of sawdust, the ale's acidity provides a tangy and peppery finish with echoes of saddle leather and horse hair to revisit the palate in a retro-nasal aftertaste. Its subtle alcohol warmth hides effortlessly behind a feathery tannin spice and yeasty pepper character.

With the heart of the Belgian and French farmlands in mind, its assuring to know that beer lovers of the Pacific Northwest have more to whet their whistle than only hoppy ale.

Popped the top and let it sit for a few minutes...but it was not to be contained. A touch of foam started oozing out meaning it was time to pour. Pours a hazy copper colored ale with a billowing, massive amount of off-white foam. Major lacing!

Getting nice floral and citrus in the aroma. Big aroma to boot. Pears, banana and bubble gum...oh my.

The taste is awesome. There is a nice tart start to the sip and flavors of pear, lemon, grass, peach, funk, light pepper and malt all make an appearance. The tartness is very mild and really makes for an enjoyable sip each and every time. Dryness on the finish but salivates enough to make me want another sip.

Mouthfeel is good. The carbonation is definitely there but blends great.

Overall I really enjoyed this session. I wouldn't say I love beers with Brett, but this one had the right amount (and not too much) to make this a solid beer for the style. Perfect warm weather reach for. This was my first venture with the Logsdon crew but definitely not my last. Very reasonably priced as well which is sweet!

Orangeish somewhat cloudy pour, with a nice head of light/frothy texture. The frothiness of the head is really outstanding. Somewhat funky finish is preceded by a nice medium bodied mouthfeel. Notes of spice and citrus through to an earthy finish. Nice beer!

This was a gusher! The super cloudy, yellow ochre liquid was topped by a gigantic, tight, frothy, off-white crop of sea foam. As the head faded, it left big chunks of thick, sticky lacing in its wake. Due to the gushing, large yeast particles made it into the beer and eventually collected in the base of the glass. A thick, foamy film coated the liquid and lasted throughout the session.

The aroma was really interesting and complex. Crisp and fresh. Super fruity and funky with lots of bretty tartness. Powdery and dry yeast notes were quite apparent. Spices, including clove and coriander, were noticeable as well. With time, the tart and funky qualities intensified and the nose turned almost gueuze-like.

There was also a ton going on in the flavor profile. Sweet malts came through on the front end. I thought I picked up some Belgian candi sugar as well. Quite fruity. Pears and apples were detectible. Wheaty with notes of lemon and hay in the center. Hint of spice (clove especially). A musty, barnyard-like character was apparent. Touch of oak. As the beer moved along the palate, the flavor profile dried out substantially. Citrus rind and bitter, earthy hop notes lingered in the crisp, dry, lemony finish. As the beer warmed, the musty, funky, barnyard character intensified. Some white wine-like qualities appeared as well.

The mouthfeel was outstanding. As would be expected with any gushing beer, this one was highly effervescent. Almost Champagne-like. The light, frothy, fluffy liquid turned pillowy soft after it settled on my palate. Amazingly plush and silky smooth.

While there are a number of brett-infused saisons on the market today, Seizoen Bretta takes the cake in terms of overall complexity and mouthfeel. I aged my bottle for nearly a year and would recommend others to do likewise if you want the brett to be kickin'. Just be careful when you pop the cap!

Hazy golden color with a massive white head.

Smells great - stone fruit, flowers, peppery spice, some bretty sharpness, good complexity, extremely attractive.

Tastes terrific - peach, hay, spice, moderate but refreshing acidity, dry, long finish with just a touch of bitterness developing, good intensity of flavor, balance, complexity, and drinkability.

Tiny bubbles, cushy texture, extremely refreshing and drinkable.

One of my very favorite saisons, never fails.

Revisiting a favorite. Poured into a belgian tulip. First one I had relatively fresh and was blown away. Second I had cellared for about 10 months and it lost a bit of the charm I liked from the first.

Pours a like a murky dark apple cider with an orange tinge, rocky three finger beige head that hangs around and leaves lots of sticky film on the sides of the glass.

Aroma is bright apple, pear, OJ, bready malts, earthy spice, basement funk, and pineapple brettafied yeast esters. Complex, balanced, bright, and mouthwatering are the best descriptors I can sum this up with.

The taste brings huge yeast esters of pepper, clove, orange peel, underripe pineapple, pear skin, old golden raisin and rounds out with sourdough, rye bread, cracked wheat, and oatmeal malt character. Earthy hops add an extra soft kick. Finishes dry and spicy, lovely.

Mouthfeel is heavier side of light. Carbonation is high but not spritzy, gives more of a creamy impression.

Yes,,, this is the masterpiece I remembered the first one i had being. This is the epitome of the farmhouse saison style. All Saisons with brett should be judged against this one. Let's get this straight, it's not the BEST saison I've had but it's the one that laid out the cards and said, beat this queens high royal flush.

Consumed December 22nd, 2013 at Blue Palms Brewhouse, Hollywood, CA.

Appearance: medium yellow with fine white head. Some active carbonation.

Aroma of wild, slightly musty, tart, sour, old sock funkiness. But moderate.

Beer is slightly cheesy tasting, slightly tart. A little sour. Bitter on finish. Soft Belgian flowery yeast in the middle.

Medium mouthfeel.

This is a win, except in the refreshment department; it's a bit heavier than most saisons. The alcohol is well-hidden, though.

EDIT - 12/28/2015 - The bottled version is superior in every way. Bottle dated "best by 03/2020".

From a 750 ml bottle (best by December 20, 2018) into a tulip.

A-A normal pour produces a compact head of dense, white foam that peaks at about a finger and a half. The retention is good at roughly three minutes, and lacing is left behind on the glass. The brew is murky and pale honey in color.

S-The aroma is slightly zesty with citrus, green apple, pear, and a light, funky kick. The beer has a bready, doughy malt base. The aroma is mild, but a nice fit for the style.

T-The taste is a balanced mixture of brett flavors and mild funk. I taste pineapple, a bit of lemon, tree fruit like green apples and pear, as well as a bit of floral flavor. The fruit and flowers mingle nicely with a relatively dry, bretted-up, bready malt base. The finish is heavier on the brett and drying.

M-The feel is medium body with a smooth carbonation. Very drinkable.

O-I was excited to try this beer and it did not let me down. The mouthfeel is really nice and drinkable, and it pairs well with the flavor profile here. This is a very balanced beer with a subtle complexity that doesn't hit you over the head with flavor, but still provides plenty to think about on the palate. Unlike a lot of brett beers, i could drink this regularly and repeatedly and not get tired of it.

Light, mildly funky nose and floral, crisp, mildly funky taste. I didn't really have any expectations either way for this brew, but I was so impressed I went out and bought another one immediately. Looking forward to checking out more from these folks.

Thanks to bstyle for the opportunity to try this 'want'. 750ml bottle served in a Hill Farmstead stem. Best by 04/2018 indicated on the back label. Pours a dull orange hue with a hazy clarity and a fluffy, two inch bright white head that exhibits excellent retention. Head eventually settles into a half inch cap with thick, textured swaths of lacing revealed as the brew recedes. Nose is a bit subdued, but I get tangernine, zest and a hint of spice - it all comes off a bit witte-like. Taste consistent with nose with the addition of a mild Brett presence towards the middle/back - it's not overly bold and has just a slightly medicinal character. Mouthfeel is light and lively with a trace of acidity. Overall, I have to say that I enjoyed this one a bit more than the standard Seizoen; however, I was expecting a bit more Brett. Perhaps some extended cellaring might help bring that quality out.

light orange with a white head that disappears quickly in a film of a head. Awesome outhouse aroma, with hints of earth, pear, oranges, lemons, hey. There is some slight undertone of funk, like fresh cheese. Taste is sublime, just layers and layers. Very dry but also very much zest. Perhaps the most zesty beer I have tasted. There is also some lemons, very acidic, just explosion of lemon fruits with a perfect carbonation. Some slight hint of peppercorn and spices. Just an awesome saison. Incredibly well executed.

A - Opaque cloudy golden orange colour with two fingers of fluffy off-white head.

S - Tart brett aroma dominates. Lemon zest, spice, pepper, bready, sweet honey and some grassy notes.

T - Dry tartness that is very unique. Lemon/citrus, spice, yeast esters, bready/honey sweetness and a grassy hop profile. Long, dry finish.

M - Exceptionally dry. Light to medium body. Moderate carbonation.

Another one sent my way thanks to messanthrope, cheers Scott! Seizoen Bretta sports a hazy tangerine orange body that glows like the sun when backlit. Carbonation screams to the surface from what seems like every point of the glass. The head easily crackles to two plus fingers in height before slowly fading to a one finger meringue-like cap. Chunky lacing decorates the glass. Lookin' good.

A fruit salad of freshly sliced bosc pear, underripe peach, and green apple all with a musty, early morning quality pop from the glass. The pear juice is mildly sweet but that's pretty well buried. The brett adds a ton of mineral depth; wet stones, a little damp soil, and must. The malt base is graham crackery sweet. Unique nose.

The flavor profile is similar to the nose with big, bold fruit notes directly in your face. Pear, peach, and apple skins run from front to back with a soft sweetness. Graham cracker lays a base and it seems the more I drink the more fruity acidity pops. The minerality is subdued in comparison to the nose but still present. Sweetened pear lingers, must be from the juice added at bottling.

I like my saisons frothy and highly carbonated, this saison is a little overcarbonated for my liking though. The body has moderate weight but is tremendously frothy on the tongue. While the carbonation is aggressive it is still very soft, well done there. A little sweetness sticks on the swallow. If the carbonation was dialed down just a touch it would hit the spot.

Seizoen Bretta is an excellently made American saison. Juicy fruit, easy going brett additions, and a great nose make this one of the better American versions I've had in a while. The mouthfeel has that Belgian frothy quality but is a touch overdone; minor gripe. I've had my eye on this beer for a while, glad I was finally able to give it a whirl. Thanks again, Scott!

750ml bottle no. 49741, best by 07/2018. Picked up in Waterbury today 11/25/2013, poured into a Hill Farmstead stemmed glass.

This beer pours a hazy orange yellow color; With a very nice white fluffy head that leaves a sticky white lacing all over the glass as it settles. Very good retention. Kind of over carbonated actually.

Smells rather tart and funky, small amounts of acidity but not much enamel destruction. Definitely getting a nice pear scent, like freshly sliced pears leaving a nice sweetness. But the funk is the strongest quality in the nose.

There is a nice complexity here. Starts off a bit sweet and fruity, like a tart fresh squeezed orange (rather than pears), leading to a nice bit of acidity and tartness, ending in a crisp, yet bitter funkiness that is typical of Brettanomyces. It's very enjoyable.

Refreshing, lighter bodied saison with very good carbonation up front, though it seems to flatten out as soon as you close your mouth. Can't tell this is 8%, not at all.

Above average saison, nice mild fruit contribution to an otherwise straightforward saison. In fact, it reminds me of a more tart Orval. I probably wouldn't buy it again since usually when I see it, I'm traveling and usually have other things to bring home. Highly recommend though, to anyone who enjoys a good saison.
