On tap at the brewpub.

The beer pours a yellow color with a big white head. The aroma has a lot of hops in it. I get a lot of resinous hop aroma, as well as some cattyness.

The flavor is also very hoppy. There is a little bit of biscuit malt, as well as some nice pine and resinous hop notes. There is also a little bit of orange citrus in the flavor. Medium bitterness. The alcohol is also hidden nicely.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

A decent IPA at Flix at an affordable price. Not a lot to write home about really. A little boozy for a single IPA and a decent mix of pine, citrus, and malt.

Drink local my friends.

The name listed at the brewpub was "Lupulis." Note that "IPA" is NOT part of the epithet per the brewery itself. Can we stop adding the style and/or abbreviating it when adding beers, PLEASE? 7.0% ABV. 64oz growler filled at the brewpub yesterday and served at fridge temp into a generic pilsner glass in me gaff in low altitude Austin, TX. Reviewed live. Expectations are average; this is me first beer from this brewery.

Poured straight since the weight of the growler prevents side-pouring.

No bubble show forms as it's poured.

HEAD: Three fingers wide. White in colour. Fluffy. Fairly frothy. Somewhat creamy. Adequately thick.

Retention is good - about 8 minutes - which is fairly impressive for a growler pour (albeit a recently filled growler).

Leaves little lacing on the sides of the glass as it recedes.

BODY: Clear dull copper. Translucent. Semitransparent. No yeast particulate or hop sediment is visible.

Appears well-carbonated. Far from unique or special. Definitely below average for the style. The appearance doesn't really encourage me to take the first sip, but I've seen far worse.

AROMA: It's hop-dominant, thankfully. Piney hops, some floral hop character, and some faint reticent nectary hops. Hints of onion are present; I surmise simcoe (or perhaps amarillo) was used.

Pale malts provide the extent of the malt end.

Overall, it's a generically pleasant aroma of average strength.

No yeast character, alcohol, or off-notes are detectable. I find no spices or herbs either.

TASTE: Hmm. The oniony notes dominate, and while I'm usually a fan of oniony hops, they don't work at all here. There's some generic floral hop character as well, but the piney and nectary notes I thought I found in the aromatics are absent here.

Pale malts predictably provide the foundation of the beer. This is quite an imbalanced brew, and the dominant oniony notes are off-putting.

There're no yeasty notes, off-notes, or overt alcohol.

Shallow depth of flavour. Below average flavour duration and intensity. Poor flavour amplitude.

It lacks sufficient complexity, intricacy, subtlety, and nuance. There's just nothing here of interest at all. Even a very generic but balanced IPA would be preferable. This offers little. It tastes like a low common denominator of IPAs.

TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, unrefreshing, medium-bodied, overcarbonated, and largely unapproachable. It's a generic texture for an IPA, and doesn't feel at all thought-out. Certainly not a good companion to the taste.

Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, or harsh. But it does have some off-putting characteristics: it's slightly rough and even a bit scratchy on the palate, and the alcohol is much more noticeable than it should be. Higher ABV superior IPAs have no trouble hiding even 8 or 9%.

OVERALL: A weak mediocre IPA that won't interest the discerning drinker. This can definitely be skipped. I consider myself a reviewer more tolerant of oniony notes than the vast majority of reviewers, but this one goes way too far. Fairly difficult to drink given the low quality. I definitely won't be picking this one up again, and I'm a bit annoyed I sprang for a whole 64 oz fill. If this is what Flix has in store for me with the other two growlers I picked up, I definitely won't be getting any more fills there.

Had this at the theater.

Look, difficult to tell as I was in a theater, but definitely a golden hue.
Smell was citrus and hops almost equally.
Taste, this was one of the most flavorful IPA's I've had. Very citrusy. It was a light and crisp but yet ever so slightly malty beer, with a good amount of hops, not overbearing, and any bitterness was matched by an equal or greater amount of flavor including a hefty amount of citrus and a notes of pine.
A light-medium feel.
This beer was a pleasure, it opened my eyes to how much flavor an IPA can have, and has inspired me to drink every IPA I can get my hands on this year.
