I've had this on draft and from cans. A lot of work goes into making this brew - the Hop Back process adds a labor-intensive step, and boy is the flavor worth it. Labor and ingredients wise, this is a costly beer to brew, and it's available for a $9 six pack price? Gorgeous.

Appearance: Pours a nice bright brassy hue. A haze of particulates clouds the brew; head fluffs white and recedes quickly.

Smell: Sweet citrus fruit, caramel candy, sweet biscuits, hop tanginess.

Taste: Balance presides over layers of flavor. Fresh bright orange zest and sweetbread maltiness, some honey, citrus pith, finishes with crisp dry grapefruit peel.

Mouthfeel: Possibly the best part of this delicious brew. Nice full-bodied chewy sticky satisfaction. Carbonation is minimal and alcohol warming lingers as the beer warms.

Overall: This beer is the ultimate balance-freak's IPA go to. If the ABV came down to the 5's range, I'd be smitten. Well, more smitten. This is a thoroughly lovable beer.

Excellent IPA - you can drink more than one. Poured 12 oz can into pint glass.

A - pours a great copper color; not clear, but not murky

S - good smell; not overpowering aroma

T - not an overpowering taste, but still the great IPA taste

M - nothing special, but did not take away from the taste

O - a great beer.

I think what a lot of folks are missing with this beer is that it's an AMERICAN IPA. Not a standard IPA. Personally, I prefer that as it has a much better, creamier mouth feel than most standard IPA's. It's a bit lighter than many of them as well, but for me, that's a bonus, because rather than being heavy, it's both a treat, and refreshing. I could drink a 6 pack of this stuff without wanting to switch, which I can't say for any standard IPA. They eventually get to be too much after one or two.

A really drinkable IPA that still has a lot of body to it. Crisp, full flavor with citrus and earthen notes. One of my favorite beers.
