Pours with a stunning angelic white head atop a startlingly clear golden body, leaves chunks of lace, looks like little icebergs. As you empty the bottle a substantial amt of yeast leaves a fine silt - like layer on the bottom.

The nose is really sweet, mainly candied banana with a little vanilla. There is also a fresh smelling grassy note pervading the whole affair.

Well balanced flavour, sweet bubblegum notes, somewhat bready with a good, assertive tartness which really gives this beer some substance.

The mouthfeel is nice and creamy, med bodied with med carb. A really refreshing beer, perfect to accompany lunch on a warm spring day...

This one caught my eye o’er my local Black Sheep Bottle Shop with its bright yellow label and the crossed swords with knights helmet standard of Cavalier - that’s a standard that I guess, well, stands for something. Of course a Weizen with a bright yellow label is going to conjure up flavours of banana, however we mustn’t be too hasty with assumptions - they can lead to ourselves making asses out of you and me. In any case this Weizen is based on the very first beer they submitted to competition and won them accolades so it should be a damn fine drop… as good as what German brewers produce? Perhaps not, but it certainly has the chance to be up there.

Poured from a 330ml bottle into a Weizen glass.

A: Cloudy, as a good hefe should be, with a… dare I say it: Pale banana yellow body and 1 centimetre chalk white head on top. Lots of carbonation action in the glass - looks like a real tasty Weizen aiight. 8/10.

S: Quite a big hit of clove on the nose, along with dusty/musty bread yeast. Not much in the way of banana, but you can guess it’s there somewhere in the background… hiding from me… damn delicious bastard it is. Hint of sugar comes through all granular-like… sort of a schnapps vibe I’m getting there. As far as the nose goes it’s too dirty to be German but rustic enough to be Belgian. 7/10.

T: Really hits hard with those clove/dusty/musty characters, to its detriment IMO. Following on from that there’s some lemon, then a hint of banana (but not enough), some schnapps spirit comes through towards the finish which is admirably dry and peppery. Overall it’s one of the oddest Hefeweizens I’ve encountered and TBH it makes me long for a glass of Weihenstephaner instead. Whereas Weihenstephan is clinical in its flavour profile this is all over the shop. 6/10.

M: Mid to light bodied with a slight creamy texture that is blighted by a little too much carbonation. 6/10.

D: Another “hit n’ miss” Aussie Weizen to add to the pile. I guess I hold my Weizens to a high standard with brewers such as Weihenstephaner and Schneider Weisse, and of course they’ve got a good half a millennium jump on us antipodeans, however if you don’t try to follow what the great brewers have done how will you ever achieve greatness yourself? Feel free to answer that question while I tuck into a nice Weihenstephaner Hefeweizen, prost! 6/10.

Food match: Pub food, hamburgers and beer-battered chips with aioli - you get the picture.

Pours murky amber with a large, lasting head.
Nose shows doughy wheat, lemons, clove. Pretty standard for the style.
Same story with the flavours, doughy wheat, cloves. However a vegetal and grainy character becomes apparent in the finish.
Carbonation is too high.

Had on-tap at Biero in Melbourne.

Pours very clear, a pale light golden colour with the merest of mere hints of haze. Head is fine, a ring of decent frothy white that leaves moderate lacing. Lots of carbonation, but it streams through the body so quickly. I'm a bit underwhelmed.

Nose is full of banana esters, but thinly so, without any body or heft to back it up. A bit of crisp wheat acidity gives touches of soda stream to it. It's all a bit inspid, like artificially sweetened banana candy. Eh.

Taste is similar. Very thin body, but with the sweet, slightly cloying and unsatisfying banana character. Back sticks around too long with a touch of mouldy or overripe organics. Finish is rife with that soda water character. Banana is certainly the main event here, but it's not particularly well done. Shame.

Not a good hefeweizen, and so, so far from the best examples. I was disappointed, especially given the other good reviews here.

This is my third offering from this brewery and they say threes a charm and it pours a very golden yellow hue with nice carbonation that leaves behind a two finger frothy head that stays and also sporadic clingy lacing, the smell is cloves, bananna, doughy wheat, bubblegum and orange rind, the mouthfeel is just above light bodied smooth, creamy and has tastes of citrus, doughy wheat, spices and finished with a lemon zest dryness and overall i found this drop really enjoyable and im not the biggest fan of wheat beers but this one was different and i would drink again without doubt.
