Pours out of the can black as pitch and thick as used motor oil. Looks just as inky black in the glass, with a small ring of brown foamy head like an espresso. Decent retention on it for its abv.

Very pleasant coffee-dominant aroma. Freshly ground, dusty and musty, tobacco, leather, toast, and earth. The base beer is hardly noticeable, but there is a strong presence of both baking cocoa and rich sweet dark chocolate.

Wow. The taste contradicts the aroma by a mile. It's all about the malt here; very sweet, rich dark chocolate, bordering on chocolate syrup. The coffee is barely there, providing a slight roasted bitterness about mid-palate--before the lingering chocolate sweetness takes over again. There's not much nuance here. It's just sweet dark chocolate with the faintest hint of coffee.

Mouthfeel is very thick. Oily, creamy, silky. Moderately carbonated, it flows slowly and smooth across the tongue, leaving residual sugars in its wake.

L - Deep black with a large dark tan head that sticks around and leaves behind a nice cap with minimal lacing
S - Tons of roasted coffee and dark malt with notes of dark chocolate
T - Follows the nose: rich, roasted, coffee with slight bitterness intermixed well with fudgy dark chocolate and dark malts. Hints of lactose. Slight caramel.
F - full bodied with light carbonation. Smooth, rich, creamy
O - A very, simply, yet well executed coffee stout

2018 bottle tried in 2023. Very smooth beer, ABV was not as evident as I expected. Lots of coffee flavors, but not the bitterness that comes with dark coffee.

(16 oz can, best by 07/31/23, 11.5% abv; purchased a cold 2-pack from the St. Louis brewery less than two weeks ago... split poured between my Chouffe tulip and my St. Bernardus goblet)

L: dark brown liquid; relatively dark brown foam, holding better in the tulip (at first)... as I was recording the aromas, the heads on both broke down to almost nothing; thinnest of collars

S: dark roast espresso beans (more prominent in the goblet), dark cocoa powder; vague hints of toasted almond and molasses... the tulip has a more pronounced earthy floral undertone... I suppose the goblet pour is the only of the two with notes of coffee liquor/liqueur, and is more pleasing overall

T: the alcohol is remarkably present up front, busting out of the gate, while a rich coffee liqueur flavor follows close behind, finishing first robustly nutty-toasty-roasty, then shifting to an almost chocolate syrup in the early aftertaste, before shifting back to a bitter char in the middle-front with lingering bittersweet, almost amaro-like herbal, licorice-like essences on the sides of the palate... once the palate became attuned (and stunned) to the goods here, it's all dry, roast-driven coffee liqueur

F: one of the more full-bodied beers/stouts I've (ever?) had? - as it goes, it thins in the tulip, but maintains a round rolling richness in the goblet, but then gets thick in the tulip smh... the roasty bitterness and ethanol team for a smoky heat at the front of the palate that lasts and lasts... viscous sludge embrace, but blasted out, sedated in the finish; one can too much for one

O: one of the more truly desserty/digestifian stouts I've ever had (note: I have largely avoided modern pastry stouts)... starts out promising, but I lost interest less than halfway through... the other can will be shared, so I can be spared (2202)

Pitch black with half finger of rusty, white head. Smells like coffee, smoke, it tastes, moderately sweet and syrupy, with hints of coffee, black, licorice, deep, dark toasted notes. Thick syrupy body with very little fine carbonation. I got this in Concord North Carolina and I’m drinking it in Canton North Carolina with my brother-in-law August 14, 2023.

L: Pours a thick, oily brown brew that forms a moderate dark tan head that is quick to fade, leaving behind some thin surface retention and a hint of soapy lacing on the rim of the snifter. Held to the light, this beer is opaque with a soulless black hue.

S: Coffee roast, malt, hints of chocolate and vanilla.

T: Wow. Dark roast coffee and vanilla right off the bat. What follows is bitter and earthy, with espresso, chocolate, a hint of caramel. Cream, and some trace lactose in the middle. Finished with roasted malt and a faint vestige of char. One of the best imperial stouts I've ever tasted.

F: Full-bodied. Thick and coats the mouth. Creamy, velvety, and sticky. Moderate carbonation.

O: Maybe it's the hometown bias speaking, but this is some seriously tasty sh*t. It's perhaps a little heavy on the cream, but that hardly detracts from the experience. Nice ABV without being too boozy. Tremendous flavor and mouthfeel, aromas were a tad lacking but that's the only critique I can think of. Stout lovers will not regret this purchase.

A: dark black, thick like oil, and a very thick creamy head that slowly grows out of the body of the beer.

S: coffee, rich, velvety, roasty coffee.

T: rich and velvety with sweet cream, espresso, and vanilla. It's almost you sweet and rich.. damn though.

M: super creamy with a very thick mouthfeel.

O: overall it's a bit of a sugar bomb, but maaaannn this is good.

Liquid appears like 100,000 mile burnt motor oil in color with a light brown sugar head lacking stature.
Taste and smell of, you guessed it, coffee with and extra spoon of sugar.
Feel is thick and syrupy. Low on carbonationOverall; Quite Tasty but sweet enough to be a desert beverage.

Can pour - super dark with a solid head. The nose has that pepper/pennies note, but it doesn't translate to the flavors, which are traditional sweet burnt sugar and roast.

Pitch black pouring with a very thick - 3 finger - brown head. It looked like a nitro when pouring, though it isn't. The head is quite frothy looking, and fluffy. The head is quite long lasting. There's no lacing on the glass.
The aroma is a pleasing mix of dark, bitter, chocolate and a bit of coffee. The aromas work very well together.
Taste - There's a lot of coffee in this beer. It starts off a bit sweet, some caramel, chocolate, and a creamy flavor from the lactose. The back turns turns coffee, and dark chocolate. Slight hint of bitterness on the back.
The body is super thick, it feels very creamy. There's no alcohol burn at all. It is very smooth.
This is an amazing beer.
