L: Had this beer on-tap at The Answer Brewpub, poured into a snifter glass. Had a jet black color and a thick, opaque texture. There was a thin, tan-colored, creamy head that quickly dissipated. Not much lacing.

S: An okay, but not brilliant, aroma of coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, and caramel.

T: Tasted of a moderate amount of roasted malt (mostly in the finish), some coffee (not as much as expected), light dark chocolate notes, and light caramel notes. The aroma was promising, but the flavor is kind of disappointing. All the ingredients seem to be a little underpowered. Thin and sort of watery.

F: A decent amount of carbonation with a smooth aroma. Medium-bodied.

O: This beer has its good points, but it's a bit of a mess. Worth a look, though.

Bottled 1/16; consumed on 5/28 - poured from a 750mL bottle into my Bruery tulip.

Opaque seal brown liquid supports a lasting sand colored head; fine sandy lacing, faint legs.

Round, honey-sweet, softly chocolate-laden, orange-blossom infused coffee in the nose, backed by roast malt with hints of tobacco.

The flavor is compact, dense, and heavily concentrated. Nutty smooth coffee notes throughout. Mild bitterness, rich yet dry malt, with hints of cocoa and cinnamon in the finish, which expands to reveal a floral note and a vague whisper of acidity. Superbly balanced.

Creamy, but slightly thin mouth-feel - never acrid or tannic, and the ABV is well concealed while providing some extra flavor perhaps.

One of the better coffee beers I've had the pleasure of imbibing - would love to try one of the variants to see the impact a different coffee would have on the finished product.

Motor oil pour , dark tan head of foam that leaves a low lacing behind.

Tons of malt on the nose, with a quick roasty coffee followup. Not too sweet, not much lingering bitterness.

More malt in the flavors, yet balanced by lots of bitter roasty coffee. Dark chocolate backbone that dilutes the powerful roastiness in the profile; it does so very successfully.

Sump has an awesome thick body, sticky smooth. Creamy as it goes down. Subtle warmth, no uncomfortable burn or lingering bitterness.

I had this beer on-tap in a snifter at Perennial in St. Louis.

Appearance: rich dark brown, nearly black, with a thin layer of brown foam. Dark!

Smell: sweet, with coffee, caramel, toffee, and marshmallow. A really interesting melange!

Taste: coffee, sweetness, caramel and a bit of ... more sweetness. This is absolutely a dessert beer, but it's damn tasty.

Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a good carbonation and immensely smooth creaminess. The menu doesn't say this is a milk stout, but I'd believe it if it were.

Overall: very enjoyable. I'm not always a dessert beer guy, but this is darn good.
