750ml purple wax. Snifter glass. Thick, dark black body, oily with a fair bit of leg, one finger offwhite head, good retention, no lacing. Smell is a big chocolate fudge and whiskey combination, a bit of brown sugar, touch of smoke. That bit is the Maman base, I think- and the wheatwine adds in a bit of warming heat on the backend, more of a spicy rye whiskey finish that is a bit sweeter than Maman on its own. Big chocolate fudge, brownies, toasted oatmeal, a touch of vanillin and coconut sweetness. Mouthfeel is full bodied, lower in carbonation than expected, fudgy and chewy. Smooth with a slight warming rye heat.

Pours pitch black with tan ring of head. Nose is bourbon, chocolate, fig newton, cherry, toffee, raisins. Taste follows the nose big chocolate covered cherry, figs, raisins, jam, bourbon. Thick, viscous mouthfeel. Overall, a delicious offering.

Also known as their 7th Anniversary, this slick, thick used motor oil black beer has a thin mocha chain.

Aromas and flavors align pretty well, delivering equally potent notes of sticky prune, smoky char and maple. It has an insane barrel presence with hardly any heat, unlike Maman which shares many similar veins but is much hotter. This actually makes the 2018 Anniversary Blend my preferred beer between the two. As it warms, there is also a really mature aged grape note, as, all the while, a thick, big body is cut by a thin carbonation.

This is a good beer that sounds like it should taste far better, based on the label description. My guess is that this was a blend of the lesser batches of Maman plus Devil's Heart of Gold from a given vintage. The addition of cinnamon, coffee, vanilla, and other pastry things could have helped this beer out on overall flavor and enjoyment.
