Belgian-Style Saison brewed with Chamomile Flowers.

A straw colored Belgian-style Saison brewed with chamomile flowers. It is fermented with a traditional saison yeast strain that imparts fruity and spicy notes that dovetail perfectly with the tea-like quality of the chamomile. Finishes dry, tart, and refreshing.

Tall pour at the STL airport. $9 ain’t bad these days at an airport. First beer from Perennial. Really quite a delicious Saison and funky beer, in general. Soft, subtle, super floral from the chamomile without being excessive. Really enjoyed this. Wish it could have been at the brewery. Oh well.

Saison De Lis pours a pale clean yellow, with a big, frothy lacing head. The aroma has notes of spice and flowers. The flavor is nice and dry, clean, crisp, with flower notes and some Belgian spice. Good feel. Overall, a nice easy beer with earthy flowery flavors, a bit sweet but dry, and smaller "saison" flavors.

A: Pours with a bit of haze, a golden/yellow color. A white head forms, and recedes to leave a little lace behind.
S: Banana esters up front, light spice. At first thought this was more of a Hefe. Phenols and light esters is the name of the game.
T: Banana esters, phenolic, bubblegum, light spice. A bit of a soapiness going on. Not much else, but OK for an American version. I also wouldn't have guessed there was chamomile here, so it is very light to nonexistent to me.
M/O: Medium body, could have more defined and noticeably crisp body. Seems too light, with moderate carbonation. A bit of slick and soapy oiliness. No problems finishing this. Though can't say its much of a Saison.

Just enough fruity banana esters to give it more of a light Hefe character. Which makes it an average Saison. Though decent enough to drink without having to think to much about it.

Best by January 9th 2024, I got this 16 ounce can from City Brew Tours.

It pours a hazy dark yellow/light orange with one heck of a good long lasting head of foam, plenty of lacing.

The smell is light cloves, coriander, tea, hints of sweet notes, maybe honey.

The taste is tea, coriander, no cloves, herbal, kind of spicy, really really dry finish.

Good mouthfeel, good for what is. I don't need to drink this again.

(on draft, at the brewery little less than two weeks ago)

bland, like an unsweetened flour lump cookie... did NOT taste the chamomile, neither apple-y nor flower-y (well...)

was a few sips in and wanted to dump it and/or just move on a quickly as possible

how is this 5% abv?!; tasted at least half that... no flaws, but just boring and white; go figure (2205)

The chamomile come on strong in the finish, but then you’re almost immune to it as you settle into this beer. I decent saison with some lemon highlights. The funk is there but as strong, maybe it’s conflicting with chamomile?

The aroma is faint with hints of lemon

Finished very dry almost sharp.

L- Nice 80% transparent pale yellow/orange color with nice spongy white foam that fades quickly and leaves some lace. 4.00

N- Light floral note with a fair amount of honey as it tempers along with some floral yeast. 4.00

T- Light honey tinged flower-chamomile with a bit of mineral hop bitterness balances the floral note. No phenolic or ester notes are apparent and no residual candi sugar to make it sweet. There is a bit of tang that makes this really refreshing and easy to want to pound. 4.25

M- Very fine and slightly prickly bubbles that focus on the tip and center of the tongue. This is only for a moment as the ale quickly turns smooth and a bit like honey although the body is on the leaner side of medium. A fresh and dry finish reinforces the floral notes, yet you can make out the Pilsner malt 4.25

O- A really different Belgian style that is all about a light floral fruit vibe. Chamomile tea for example, is quite a bit more strong and earthy and dusty compared to the notes here. It might be fun to have a bit of phenol or ester notes, yet I could see how it might upset the delicate presentation going on here. I have to check the price (I think $13 for a 4pk of tall boys) so this may be a repeat buy if any more is to be had. 4.25

Poured into a tulip.

Pours light hazy gold with limited head and lacing.

Estery aromas meet Belgian yeast and clove and coriander.

Similar flavors. Esters (bubblegum and banana) melt with clove and a bit of hopping. The yeasts are really present here.

Medium bodied and well carbonated.

Solid.

I really enjoy this and it's a shame it's probably gonna get discontinued where I work because Perennial just doesn't seem to move out here. Tastes like a typical good saison but there's a smoothness from the flowers that I enjoy.
