Draft pour in tulip.

Look: Black with a big Brown frothy head.
Smell: Lots of cinnamon, chocolate, and pepper on the nose. Really nice.
Taste: Much like the nose, get a lot of cinnamon and chocolate. On the tail end you get a nice peppery finish. All these flavors become bolder as the beer warms. The flavors come together in a way that is reminiscent of a cinnamon candle...haha.
Feel: This is where the beer shined. Really velvety mouthfeel. Thick and rich, like a stout should be! Alcohol very well masked.

Overall: I think this beer is awesome, much like everyone else. Haha. It smells fantastic and is as smooth as Velvet. Taste did give me a slightly weird flavor but overall it was still tasty. Seek this one out! Im excited to see how this beer tastes after bourbon barrel aging.

Bottled-11/2014
Poured into snifter

This was my first own personal "whale". What better time to review it than as my first beer of the year.

The top popped with the quietest hiss. So excited about this that I sniffed the mouth of the bottle before pouring(almost took a sip, and maybe I did)... A gluggy pour that filled half of the glass left a 1/2" of quickly dissipating brown head gyrating on top of a black pool. Sweet and spicy nose left me ready to dive in. Taste is straight fudge with a peppery POP! I was expecting the spice to have mellowed after a year+ in the bottle, but it was there in force. Nice med-thick, slick feel with minimal carbonation(almost perfect for the style). Heat creeps in, and just compounds on the palate with each sip. This gets WAY better as it warms. It gives way to some of the flavors that were overpowered by the spice, like vanilla. Great beer, but not mind blowing. Along the lines of BOMB! and Imperial Blud, but I would have to side-by-side to pick out my favorite.

One of the best stouts I've had lately. Packs a punch but very smooth for 10%. I would gladly drink this again if given the chance. Job well done on this.

2015 on draft
Big dose of cinnamon upfront with a bit of coffee so that the two meld seamlessly. Start to get some Dark fruit, molasses and raisin. This ends with chocolate and light chili peppers. I'm so impressed.

I cracked a 2014 Abraxas with my brother as a Christmas celebration and all we could say was ... "wow." This is a superbly balanced imperial stout. I'm not typically a big fan of stouts brewed with peppers but this was so very subtle and in my opinion brought out the sweet chocolaty flavors. There was just a barley noticeable zip with the addition of peppers, but so well melded together. Very smooth, very rich, very sweet with zip. Will definitely be adding this to my annual wish list. I highly recommend this beer to others.

750ml bottle. 11/2014 bottle date. Appearance: Jet black, opaque, with low brown head. Aroma: Rich malty complexity or dark chocolate, roast, and strong dark fruit. A touch of cinnamon bread. Taste: Rich malt sweetness with strong dark chocolate and moderate roast, turning to cinnamon toast. A hint of pepper spice shows up after the swallow. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate viscosity, light carbonation, and touch of alcohol warmth. Finish: Roast and cinnamon linger long after the swallow. Overall: One of the most unique, and best, imperial stouts I’ve had. A great, powerful aroma and strong chocolate flavor contrasted by a unique cinnamon twist and a touch of pepper.

Very good. Reminded me a lot of Hunahpu but smoother. Aromas of cinnamon gram cracker, cocoa, and some vanilla, taste is the same but very smoothly blended with a very little heat from the peppers on the end. overall a great beer to sip on this time of year.

This is the most cinnamon that I have ever experienced in a stout; total cinnamon bomb! The vanilla pops alittle bit too. Light roast and earthy peppers. Nice chewy and oily mouthfeel.
