Poured from a 750 ml bottle into a chalice. 2016 Vintage.

Appearance: Pours jet black. Moderate amount of bubbles and a slight finger of tan head that quickly fades away.

Smell: A spicy and roasty dark malt driven aroma with a scent of chocolate and spices. Dark roasted malt with a scent of dark chocolate, cacao nibs, coffee, toast, biscuit, grains, nuts, toffee, and caramel with yeast. Big scent of spice with some cinnamon and chili peppers. Sweet scent of vanilla and molasses. Hints of leather, tobacco, and dark fruit. A really good aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a spicy and roasty dark malt driven taste with notes of chocolate and spices. Dark roasted barley malt with notes of dark chocolate, cacao nibs, coffee, biscuit, grains, toast, toffee, caramel, and nuts along with yeast. Spice notes of cinnamon and chili peppers. Sweet taste of vanilla bean and molasses. Undertones of dark fruit, leather, and tobacco. A really good taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Spicy, rich, and slick.

Overall: A great spiced Imperial Stout. Really nice mix of roasty and spice flavor.

Very good beer, spice isn't overbearing, alcohol very well hidden, and some vanilla and cinnamon mixed in. Definitely happy to have had this beer, but won't seek out again at its price point. You can find similar beers for a fraction of the price and without the need to trade.

Little brother/sister to the BA Abraxas, this beer is a cinnamon bomb with a nice initial mouthfeel that dissipates perhaps a tad too quickly for me. If that front palate could hold on just a shade longer, it would be even better.

A very big beer. I enjoyed the cinnamon in the nose, and it has a very silky, chewy mouthfeel. I got notes of chocolate and less so the peppers. I feel like the cinnamon dominates, and it's not too boozy for a 10% beer. Excellent stout. Worth the hype, IMO.

2015 version, super dark inky pour with a mocha colored head that doesn't last long at all. Getting cinnamon and cacao nibs upfront, super roasty. Mild licorice and dark fruit. Lots of lacto, chocolate and roasty malt with the taste. Cinnamon and spices not quite as noticeable as the aroma, but still there. Mouthfeel is the highlight here, super thick and velvety. Palate coating, and sticky. Slight burn, but the sweetness balances this all out.

It's good but I'm not dropping $30 on a bottle again when a sixer of Xocoveza can be had for half the cost. So many other beers out there doing the same style nowadays.

Dark coffee-black pour with a thin dark khaki head
Smells like brown sugar, cinnamon, chilies, molasses
Coffee chocolate upfront, sweet cinnamon that fades into subtle but present peppered heat -sweet but not cloyingly so
Thick, chewy without seeming like syrup
Overall worth seeking out!
