750ML bottle that I passed on several times at $20/22 – yeesh. Must be virgin, imported, hand-macheted coconut? Picked up at $15, & I had to think on that. Split with my wife.

The pour is black, with visible carbonation that doesn’t even cover the surface of the beer. Smells like chocolate & light roast – I think there’s coconut, but that might be the power of suggestion.

Fantastic Voyage – where are we going? The cast of Lord of the Flies would have rejected this beer, as they’d been subsisting on coconuts for months. Candy. Chocolates & coconuts with just a quid of roast in the background. Touches of cinnamon & gentle lactose round it out. Smooth. Too sweet to drink like the well of life, but half a bomber will suit my need for sugar just fine.

A very good, solid stout with a lovely touch of coconut – but why the hell in a bomber for a premium price? The easy answer is because idiots like me buy it. A one & done at the price, but attractive in a smaller, less pricey format.

coconut is hot right now. everyone is doing one of these, and while this is better than a lot of them, its also kind of samey at this point. this is becoming the new blood orange hoppy beer, which literally everyone with a brewing license has made over the last couple of years. soon there will be more of these than we can care about, but i liked this a lot even still. the coconut here has a nice wintery, warming, toasted quality, but also a fresh creaminess with the lactose, which i think is overdone here, but i like it texturally, the beer is just too sweet to drink a ton of. the aroma is the best part, the coconut is really forward but also incredible natural, thats where this one is better than others for me. the base stout is also excellent, its huge, sweet, and boozy, thick and rich for sure, but there is some nice deep roast to the grain, a needed coffee type bitterness to it, and a long delicious finish, it would be great even without the coconut. i love all the body, this feels hearty and wintery, is just boozy enough, but really feels fancy to me. coconut sweetness and nuttiness, frosting, and coffee, delicious but something i really can only handle about a glass of before it gets to be a bit too much. i am getting less and less interested in dessert type stouts and porters personally lately for whatever reason, maybe just fatigue from so many, but this is one of the good ones. well worth the modest asking price.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #76 (May 2013):

Smells great, more like a confection than a beer, which is an impressive feat. Flavors open up more after each sip. While not immensely complex, the melding of the roasted character and coconut is nothing short of absolutely delicious.

STYLE: Milk Stout w/ Coconut
ABV: 8.8%
AVAILABILITY: Summer Seasonal

LOOK: Black, brown lacing

SMELL: Chocolate, charred grain, toasted coconut, currants

TASTE: Sweet, full bodied, mild roasted grain, chocolate, breakfast roast coffee, coconut, faint brown sugar, cooked raisins, crackers, sweet finish

750ml bottle into a Cigar City snifter. Shared with schen9303.

Beer pours pitch black with a very thin dark mocha head with poor retention. Lacing is stringy, spotty and sparse with little cling. Thin legs. Average.

Nose is toasted almond and coconut, chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, and lactose. Robust, aromatic, and deep with nice complexity.

Opens lactose, cocoa, toasted coconut and chocolate. Some roasted malt bitterness and tartness in the middle. Espresso too. More lactose sweetness and toasted almond in the end with a milky, sweet chocolate finish and a bittersweet chocolate and coconut aftertaste. I really like the coconut and lactose presence in this one but it could be a touch sweeter.

Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Oily, slick and silky in the mouth and smooth going down. Finishes messy with a lingering and sticky aftertaste. Solid.

Overall, a decent milk stout but for the price point, not one worth revisiting. A touch over-carbonated with a complex flavor profile that just seems to have something missing. Definitely worth trying but there are better beers in the style besides this.

750ml bottle dated 09/14/17
Poured into a snifter shows a dark chocolate brown body, briefly supports a 1/2in cocoa colored head of variably sized bubbles, and leaves the glass clean of any reminder.

Aroma has coconut highlights with chocolate, cocoa, sweetness, and a metallic hint.

Flavor is chocolate and coconut, but therer is also a roast cocoa bean flavor that is distracting. The roastyness does diminish a little with warmth, but never completely goes away for me. Finish is cocoa powder that sticks around.

Mouthfeel is a solid win. Smooth, full, thick, and creamy with no grit.

Overall a nice beer.
