2016 bottle

Pours no head. Color is deep black.

Very fudgy. This beer is thick. Light amount of coffee with a light roast. Lighter barrel flavors. Oak and bourbon do show though. Molasses and caramel. Chocolate and cocoa.

Full bodied. Low carbonation. Ends dry.

Solid beer, but it lacks in flavor. It is extremely thick which I find odd. Could use more coffee and more bourbon flavors.

Edit: BA sump 2014

Vicious black. Thick.

Coffee seems faded, roast, and some bitterness. Thick, but flavor isn't there. Very faded after 2 years.

2014 bottle with notes from recent bottle share.

Upon finally opening this bottle after a year plus of cellaring, the first thing that is noticeable is the subdued coffee. This was a coffee-barrel bomb when I had it fresh on tap, but now it is a bit of a mellowed, light coffee, light barrel stout. The coffee is still there and a prominent scent on the nose, but more of the base beer shines through on this one. Solid dry and burnt dark malts mingle with a still active barrel to provide a somewhat spicy overall smell. Taking a sip of this pour you will find a flavor very similar to the scent. Coffee is upfront and still there, just weakened with some age. The barrel comes through next with the same oa spice from the nose. This beer really shines in the body, being thick, smooth, and surprisingly easy to drink for the gravity.

Overall, everyone at the bottle share was a little let down by this beer with the coffee fading with age. That being said, with every subsequent stout we opened, we kept coming back and comparing it to the BA Sump. If you have one, drink it now for sure, but it is still a very solid (subdued) coffee stout.

2015 bottle. Absolutely no head. Black. Swirl leaves nice khaki stain. Smell akin to BCBCS. Less coffee in taste. Very low carb, almost still. Overall an exceptional and memorable BA stout.

Poured motor oil black without any head. It smelled like a rich chocolate stout without much coffee. Its not too sweet with a thick mouthfeel but, the bottle was completely flat. Huge disappointment.

2015 bottle. Interesting brew for sure. Pours very viscous with virtually no carbonation. There are a bunch of flakes of stuff and some oil floating on top...looks very similar to Prop '13 with the coconut flakes floating on top, although I wonder what constitutes these floaties. Nose is rich fudge brownie, rich roasty coffee, dark fruit, toasted coconut, RICH caramel, brown sugar and of course Bourbon. Taste follows suit and finishes quite dry, with tannins, chocolate, rich coffee roast and Bourbon. Mouthfeel is thick, full and elegantly silky, but there is very little in the way of carbonation...almost nothing; I wonder if this was their intention.

Once this warmed a bit and opened up it really started to shine...the aroma and taste just went to the next level as expected. This is just as good as BCBCS if not better, however; be forewarned that this has very little in the way of carbonation. That aside, it drinks remarkably smooth for the abv, with no indication of its atual strength. It's almost flat and drinks like liquor, but the best liquor you've ever had!
