Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.10%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our flagship beer, this is a decidedly hoppy, bitter, moderately strong American pale ale. We load it with Cascade hops that provde floral and citrus notes. This IPA emphasizes the hop aroma and flavor, while muting the hop bitterness.

Cape May Brewing Co. "Cape May IPA"
12 fl. oz. can, "0880 BB 11/5/17" and sampled on 08/30/17
$9.99/6-pk @ Wegmans Cherry Hill Wine, Liquor & Beer, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: Great label. Great beach colors, and the crab holding the hop is a nice detail. Hazy deep amber, almost cooper colored body beneath a short head of white that dissipates readily. Tiny particulate can be seen in suspension and I'm guessing it's dry-hopped. The aroma has an odd note, like a wet dog or salty water. Am I imagining this? Is it just mineralish? I'm finding caramelish malt and some grassy, mild citrusy, and piney hops. The flavor follows... without the wet dog!!! The pine is more prominent, and there's almost a plastic-like note to it that's odd as well... ? Am I off base on this? Weird. I initially though it was a floral character but then it kind of lingers through into the finish. There's less caramel to the malt than I thought there would be, and it's nicely grainy and bready. Some nice orange comes through which might be its salvation. A Stiff bitterness balances it, leading to a dry finish with residual piney hops. Medium bodied and crisp. Needs focus.

Nice hazy look to this brew. Tropical scent with malt poking through. Sort of a clash with the hops and the caramel malt producing a somewhat metallic finish to this brew. Can't overcome my dislike for the flavor clash of this one (my opinion) but it gets better as it warms and as it goes down.
Edit: had it again and the flavor was better than I had initially rated.

Poured from a bottle into a glass. Perfect head thickness with light orange color. Smell of citrusy hops is appetizing. Perfect amount of bitterness that doesn't linger into poor taste on the palat. Better than just a solid IPA.

Extremely loose and airy head, barely a finger high and falling, spider webs have more density, off white coloration, no retention, the lacing looks like an afterthought. Fully cloudy and opaque liquid, chunky, looks like a catfish might be swimming through it, brownish amber, what bubbles are visible have good activity. Dense nose of pine sap, candied oranges, metallic earth, not much fresh leafiness, the apricot, apple fruit inexpressive, caramelized brown sugar and dinner rolls insufficient in sweetening it up, not simple but too reluctant to converse. In the mouth it’s full-bodied and sluggish as well, carbonation a minor factor. The citrus falls flat, little zest. More doughy, biscuity here. Sour leafiness and a metallic pucker interrupt the flow. It’s drinkable from an ABV perspective, while none of the flavors make you go “ahh.” Apple, pear, peach, none of them seems distinguished and of clarity. Drying finish, no one element seems exaggerated. Does not cohere in a choral lift, does not provide an element which would qualify as a “guilty pleasure.”
