Appearance: Dark brown. Big thick, frothy tan colored head. Great retention.
Aroma: Complex, lots of sweet and dark fruit aromas, some graininess, hint of alcohol.
Flavor & aftertaste: Moderate bitterness, grainy, hints of dark malt and spiciness.
Mouth-feel: Medium bodied, very effervescent.
Overall: Very strong Abbey quad ale. Complex aromas & flavors. Don't drink too cold or you'll miss some nuances. Seems a tad more bitter than some of St. Bernardus' other brews, but the malt base & alcohol appropriately balance it. Alcohol is noticeable, but amazingly well hidden. Has the signature highly effervescent carbonation from the bottle conditioning. Very nice.

Murky dark brown body with a most impressive, foamy tan head, 4 fingers high. Nose of raisins, malt, some sweetness and a bit of booze. Dark fruit taste with some breadiness, malt, and a lingering light sweet taste. Medium body and carbonation. If the body was a touch heavier, I would love this beer to death. World class beer, simply.
