Poured from 750ml bottle into Chimay goblet

L - Cloudy, medium brown pour with creamy tan head.

S - Creamy malt, brown bread, raisins.

T - Toasted grain, bread, caramel, spice, metallic raisin flavors.

F - Fine, creamy carbonation, thinning alcohols, warmth throughout.

The classic quad, not as syrupy as some, but a solid representation of the style overall.

Serving Type - 750ml bottle, partially poured into a tulip glass

Appearance - Dark brown, almost red in colour. Somewhat hawwzy with a mild amount of carbonation visible. On top sits a truly astounding head. Like 3 fingers of fluffy, foamy off white goodness.

Smell - Typical quad smells. Spices and a crazy amount of yeast. Getting some dark fruits as well, cherries and maybe..prunes?

Taste - Some complex stuff going on here. Sweet malt off the top. Light toffee maybe. Followed by that dark fruit picked up in the nose, along with some grapes I think. Finishes with some grain and a strong alcohol presence. Yup, Lottsa alcohol.

Mouthfeel - This is one of those things that doesn't get talked about enough, and maybe for good isn't normally very interesting. But this isn't a normal beer. The body if medium, carbonation is high...finish is...unique as it's neither crisp and dry nor smooth. It just is. The beer itself is rough on the tongue, in a pleasant sort of way..kinda grainy. I could swish this around in my mouth for days.

A- Deep, reddish brown with one finger of foam and lice lacing. Good retention.

S- Dark fruits (prune, fig), but some sweeter red cherry notes as well.

T- Complex malt, heavy on the bready side. The dark fruits come through strongly, perhaps with plum being the strongest contributor but also figs and dates. Well-balanced, and a hint of licorice and clove spice to pull the flavor to the back of the tongue. A little yeasty and definitely a touch of alcohol.

M- High carbonation give is almost a thick cola sort of feel. Creamy after it warms, and very spicy. Makes my mouth tingle!

O- A delightful sipping quad. Well-balanced, big fruit flavor, and a strong finish. I'd love to try this fresh one next to others that have been cellared.
