Reviewed from notes.

Pours a dark ruby red with brown undertones. Big fluffy head typical of a quad.

Nose is scotch/candy. Different in a good way. Very malty and yeasty as per ushe, but I'm getting some barrel aged notes in there. Nice.

Taste is a bit weaker, still very good though. Sweet yeasts along with bread and candied sugar. Typical of a quad, that's a good thing. No burn but a sweetness from the booze.

Carbonation is about where you'd want a quad. Bubbly but not aggressively so. Still smooth sipping.

Very solid quad. It's not quite Rochefort 10, but I'd say it's next in line. Although I haven't had Westy yet. All around very good.

Dark brown colour and kicks off with a big head. This recedes fast leaving some good lacing.

The smell is of dark fruit and brown sugar.

This beer has many elements to the taste. I detect raisins, cola, booze, brown sugar, treacle, alcohol warmth and a syrupy warmth. A complex beer indeed!
There is a phenolic, medicinal flavour in there and a fair level of bitterness hiding beneath the sweet flavours.
The mouthfeel is highly carbonated and this Belgian strong ale really tingles on the tongue.

Overall, a big tasty Belgian beer. Right up there with Rochefort 10 and Chimay in this category.
