It's okay. Taste like what you would expect a "normal" beer to taste like (like it is the most quintessential beer that one could expect). Aftertaste is a bit strong. Ordinary, nothing special.

Pours a cloudy orangey-brown. Medium tan head. The nose is sweet with honey and hints of bread and yeast. A little fruity. Taste is medium-sweetness off the top with some yeasty notes. Some spice on the finish and again, yeast lingers. Some earthy notes off the back. Mouthfeel and lively and turns to a drier finish. Finish remins me of Orval, meaning somewhat of a woody hint. A nice triple but hardly the best example of the style. Looking for a little more liveliness. Sweetness was good and overall drinkability was decent.

Appearance – This one came out a murky, dull orange in color with a good, white head that showed some retention and left tons of Belgian lace on the inside of my glass.

Smell – This one has a soft aroma, even when warm. The light yeast and sturdy orange peel are well-mated. I can pick up a subtle sense of alcohol as well.

Taste – The smells from the nose made it rightly to the taste. The orange and yeast come together like two halves of a zipper. The spicing is light and made up mostly of coriander.

Mouthfeel – This one is a hair above medium-bodied, it’s actually on the lighter side for the style, with fluffy cheek-puffing carbonation and a light alcohol warming. I tell you though, drinking this at close to room temperature is like drinking air. It is one of the smoothest beers that I’ve ever had.

Drinkability – The flavors here are a bit subtle, so if you liked to be smacked around in the taste buds when drinking Abbey Tripels this may not be your cup of tea. But man oh man this beer defines a “velvety mouthfeel”.

Really enjoyed this beer. 750ml bottle poured into a tulip glass. Light orange in color with a medium head that retains well; beautifully carbonated. Very spicy nose, with a little tart apple. Pleasantly spicy taste, yeasty, a little fruit. Light, good in the mouth, a little tart. Could drink a few of these.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 11.2oz bottle into a goblet. There is a best before date of 21-06-10 on the back label and it was sampled on 7-1-09.

Appearance: Its head is foamy white in color, thin (about one finger) and fades quickly to a very thin wispy covering with very little lacing. The body is golden tan in color and has a hazy appearance with lots of tan colored yeast sediment floating in it.

Smell: The aroma has a sweet fruity and estery nose with hints of dry earthy yeast and some very light hints of spicy/floral hops.

Taste/Mouth: It starts with fruity apple and apple wood notes, mixed with light bready malty notes that have a honey on soft white bread sweetness. The flavor starts to dry and I notice hints of dry white grape notes and dry funky yeast. This leads into the finish along with mellow spice and bitterness from the hops. Its texture is lively yet smooth with nice champagne like carbonation inside of a solid medium body.

Notes: This was a very enjoyable Tripel. I liked the mellow sweetness that slowly dried out towards the finish and the champagne like texture and grape flavor.

11.2 oz bottle served in a Chimay chalice dated 06/10. Pours a cloudy pale yellow with a very creamy white head constant streams of knit bubbles race to the surface good retention leaving some webs of lace with a steady creamy layer atop.Not much yeast at the bottom of the bottle

dry yeasty aromas with slighy phenolics complex light fruitiness pears/apples/white grapes. Pleasing aroma,very clean and delicate.

Very light and dry vinious with white wine like qualities with a hint of pear,very light mouthfeel and well carbinated,nice balance with crisp tart bitterness with a touch of citrus.A touch phenolic taste at the finish slight plastic,not offensive not much yeasty taste,very smooth and drinkable. A light version of their regular Tripel. Would be a good starter Belgian beer.

poured into oversized wine glass form 11.2 oz bottle. pours a cloudy peachy color full of sediment. nice size white bubbly head. great head retention lasting till the end of the glass with a lot of great sticky lacing.

the smell is tart, sweet with a lot of light fruits. lots of spice. yeasty with a little phenolics. not quite what i was expecting, but good nontheless.

the taste is unlike any tripel ive had, but very very good. starts out sour which gives way to a nice blend of spices. which in turn give way to apples, pears, grapes, a little bit of alcohol. not a lot of that usual tripel yeast flavor coming through.

medium to heavy mouthfeel, starts with a high prickly carbonation then settles to a rather low carb towards the end.

very drinkable for a tripel, i would imagine this would age very well too. if your looking for a different kind of authentic tripel, this is for you.

12oz bottle from the St Bernardus Mixed Selection six pack served in a goblet.

Appearance is a little darker than most Belgian tripels I have had, and this has bubbles rising to the top and floaties suspended throughout. I like the look of this!

Smells like fruity yeast esters. Interesting.

Taste and smell really open up as it warms. Smells sweeter as it warms. When colder, dark roasted malts and then Belgin hops- no floral or citrus but oakish wood like hops and a drying type finish that never completely dries and is far from puckering. As it warms, the transition to hops seems faster and they get more pronounced. A little sourness stays on the back of your tongue after you have swallowed. Boozy, yeasty, hoppy, aged tasting, superbly crafted like a Belgian triple should be.

Mouth feel is slick and viscous and then the sizzle of carbonation then back to a smooth feeling. Nice mouth feel.

Overall this is an outstanding tripel. If I was going to drink a tripel, I would probably want this one or Allagash Curieux but I still have the St Bernardus Tripel on deck to try next. This Watou Tripel has an old antique/old world type taste to it that I do not get in Tripel Karmeliet or La Fin Du Monde. I like that taste of have been sitting in a cellar aging for a century so that is a bonus. Tripels are not my favorite style as generally the stronger hop presence is not my bag. For context, I like sweet beers in the style of Belgian Strong Dark Ales, Bruins, Dubbels etc.

Poured from a 11.2 oz bottle into a St. Bernardus goblet glass. Best by date of 29/09/15.

Appearance: Pours a very hazy golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. About one finger of off white head that fades into a thin patchy layer. Leaves a decent amount of lacing.

Smell: A yeasty, fruity, and spicy Belgian aroma with good hints of citrus and spice. Belgian yeast with hints of clove, pepper, and funk. Lots of fruit esters with hints of banana, apple, pear, and white grape along with citrus hints of orange and lemon zest. Hints of Belgian candied sugar. Pale malt with hints of wheat, straw, grains, and cracker. Also some hints of grassy hops. A very good aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma hints, a fruity, yeasty, and spicy Belgian taste with big notes of zesty fruit and spice. Belgian yeast with some upfront notes of clove, funk, and pepper. Classic Belgian fruit flavors of banana, pear, white grapes, and green apple. Zesty citrus fruit notes of lemon and orange. Sweet notes of candied sugar. Backing pale malt and wheat with notes of straw, grains, biscuit, and cracker. Subtle earthy backing notes of grassy hops. A very good Belgian taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with a carbonation level on the heavier side of medium. Juicy, spicy, and drying on the finish. Some alcohol heat is noticeable but things are still fairly smooth.

Overall: A really good Belgian Tripel. Nice mix of zesty fruit esters and spicy yeast.

Pour a beautiful murky champaigne, with a huge, white, rocky head. Great looking beer. Smells equally great. Yeasty goodness - bread and fruitiness/sugars. Sweet and sour. Taste is rich, spicy with vanilla. Hops bring a nice dryness to the finish. Good carbonation for the style. Quite drinkable. This is lovely with some age on it.

Out of the bottle & into St. B's goblet that says "Watou." So cool to drink Watou from a Watou glass! The perfect glass???? Fair smoke on opening that produced a dark to light golden brownish beer. Quite cloudy. Nice white head with some good lacing.

Aroma is dominated by the yeast, cloves, and banana notes. I don't know I stole that but a sweetness arises up from the beer nice. Oops I spilled some.

This is kinda surprising dry and tasty beer. Really not bitter. Not sweet. Creamy with little alcohol flavor. Kind of light and spiced nicely. Balanced.

A wonderful tripel that is comparable and different from Chimay, but definitely in that league. I would agree that St. Bs Tripel or Delerium Tremens are better tripels, but in the league. But like a good Belgian brew, Watou passes the test as a beautiful, complex, enigmatic, and spell binding.
