Incredible dubbel that stands up to any quad. Dark fruit, caramel, and deep malts shine and the ABV keeps this highly drinkable. Complex and deep!

I bought a mixed pack at the LCBO in Ontario 6 bottles 330ml .
Every Christmas time I see these Belgium beers come in .
Prior 8 330ml bottle at 8%.
Dark color almost looks like a coca Cola poured a 2finger head leaving a lace as you drink it.
Looks like an expiration date on my bottle 04/06/25 wow good for 4years .
Smooth and creamy just sipping on it at 8% strong .
Very pleasant beer to drink . Sweet dark fruits dark chocolate or roasted Caramel but well balanced and smooth.
alcohol is hidden at times when drinking it .
I find that amazing in these Belgium beers .
Overall pleasant and very enjoyable to drink.
I love most of these Belgium beers look forward to them every Christmas time
Cheers .

Appearance: Saddle brown, thick frothy tan head with great retention.

Aroma: Dark malt aromas, dark fruit, grainy. Alcohol not noticeable.

Flavor & Aftertaste: Slightly warming from alcohol presence. Restrained bitterness.

Mouth-feel: Medium bodied. Effervescent & vibrant.

Overall: Another well crafted, Belgian Double. Mild fruity esters and malt aromas and flavors.

De color marrón con una buena espuma de retención media. Cuerpo medio y baja carbonatación. Aroma a malta tostada y frutos secos. En boca tiene un equilibrio entre amargor y dulzor.

I don’r think so. No sir. This one is rated like Mike Tyson, but it’s all flyweight. Not that’s it’s terrible, but it can’t throw a haymaker. It’s an ok jab.

I’m out.

Poured from a 11.2oz bottle (FL 15 02 23) into a 15cl St. Bernardus tasting glass.

Look: A collaboration of deep garnet and medium tawny, SRM 37. A finely and consistently bubbled foam for this very excitable beer, yet poor retention.

Smell: A weaker showing from the black fruits than the 6, but lead by a deeper caramel malt flavor. The sweet expression has been bullied out by the aggression of the enhanced malt, perhaps regrettably so.

Taste: Attractive yet monochromatic. It is a beer in its own right, but it must be compared to the 6, and when it is it is impossible to ignore the fact that the delicate fruit flavors have conceded too much ground to the tangled and embattled malt. The previously bright, yet appropriate, sweetness has been subdued.

Feel: A boozy warmth conquers the experience and makes its will known after the last sip. The bubbles fail to lace the tongue leaving expectations but not fulfillment.

Overall: There is nothing to explore here. This beer is a secret door to an empty room. A more prescriptive yet bland version of the 6. The greater warmth fails to compensate for the forgone complexity.

750mL bottle into a large tulip
no bottling dates which is strange as I thought St. B bottle dated

A: Pours opaque, dark mahogany, massive tan head that dissipates down moderately slow. Almost no lacing. 4.25

S: Aromas of sweet malts up front, predominately caramel; phenolic spice on the back end is strong and balances the sweetness in a nice way. More subtle dark fruits and a hint of unsweetened cocoa. Fairly straightforward forwarded but very nice and hits all the notes for the style. 4.5

T: Taste follows, sweet malts up front with spice next, and a some Nobel hop bitterness on the finish. 4

M/D: Lighter mouthfeel, the carbonation is massive, distractingly so. ABV completely masked, drinkability is somewhat limited due to the aforementioned carbonation pop. 3.75

O: Good beer, but a bit of a let down. I would have liked more of malty and sweet characters to come out in the taste, as it’s kind of a spice bomb and thus lacks the depths of some of the best in the style. Certainly worthy of an occasional visit though. 4

Deep, reddish brown appearance with a large tan head and good lacing. Complex aroma full of soft fruits, sweet malts and yeast. Medium-to-full bodied, nicely carbonated mouthfeel. Taste is well balanced, modestly hopped, with a mix of ripe fruit and caramel malts along with earthy, vinous qualities. Even a little bit of coconut trickles in. Pleasant, long lasting, fruity, moderately sweet finish.

St. Bernardus Prior 8 has a translucent brown appearance, with some red highlights and a bit of lacing. The aroma is of faint brown bread crust and cream. The flavor is similar, with a touch of bitterness. St. Bernardus Prior 8 has a medium body and a drying finish.

11.2oz bottle
stamped 12 07 24
L: brown colored ale with a fluffy beige head
S: spicy Belgian yeast, dark candi, grain, bread crust, earthy hops
T: grain, caramel, toffee, spicy yeast, dark fruit, bread crust, candi sugar, earthy hops
F: fuller body, so smooth, ample carbonation, balanced & semi-dry finish with just a bit of residual sweetness
O: I’m revisiting some classics this year, and St. Bernardus is one I don’t come back to often enough. World-class and never a disappointment!

A very well made Dubbel. Easily drinkable. Full bodied yet smooth, balanced carbonation. Awesome finish for a 8% abv. Another great beer from the legendary Belgian brewery. Any beer from St Bernadus is worthy of a top mention! Solid “A” for this St Bernadus 8 Dubbel!!!

Somehow don't have a review for this
Pours a large frothy rocky 2 finger head with greatv retention, soapy lacing, dark cloudy mahogany to molasses brown color

Nose sweet candy and dark fruits, dark Belgian candy sugar and caramelized sugars, sticky toffee, into fig, date, raisin, quite figgy,

Taste brings more of the same but a nice biscuity toasted grain, toffee, more candi sugar and caramelized molasses sugars, a little nutty, very fruity, again big fig, some date and a lot of plum, touch of phenol spice and smooth alcohol, sticky sweet finish, but if bitterness, lingering fruit and caramelized sugar

Mouth is med to fuller bod, a touch syrupy, high foamy effervescent carb (a little too much) but soft bottle fermented carb

Overall solid, just like I expected, maybe a bit too fruity but I really enjoyed that Belgian malt up front

Murky brown, with half finger off white to tan head. Aroma is of fresh red grapes, brown sugar, and honey. Taste follows the nose. Opens with fresh red grapes, plum, brown sugar, and a clean hint of pepper? Body is light to medium with higher carbonation for a full feeing. Ends with lingering plum flesh. Overall a nice double, really classic and well balanced but nothing explosive.
