Smooth, delicious abbey dubbel. Pours almost clear dark brown, minimal head, aroma of dried fruits and caramel. Mild bitterness, light mouthfeel, lingering finish. One of the better trappist beers.

Bottle poured into snifter

Three finger head, jet black beer

S: Dark fruits, hops, alcohol

T: Fruits, hops, and great barley

M: Moderate, like a weissbier!!!

Overall, this is a beer I strongly endorse and recommend! I will have this beer again when a celebration truly calls for it. This is not a session beer, it is a after-dinner beer.

Best by date of 5/5/2014. Picked this up as part of a holiday gift pack, which conveniently included a St. Bernardus goblet.

Poured a ruby-brownish color with a cloudy consistency. Lots of fluffy cream-colored head initially, which reduced to a thin half-finger in a few minutes. Smells included a variety of fruit; banana and cherry were the most prevelant and there were hints of vanilla as well. Tasted of raisins and dates, along with sweet biscuity malt. There was a subtle dry hoppiness at the end of the taste which pleasantly contrasted the sweetness at the front. Very well balanced! A little bit of natural carbonation gave this beer an easy-drinking medium body.

Overall I really enjoyed Pater 6. This was my first forray into the St. Bernardus family, and I really enjoyed the experience. This was by far the smoothest and most well-balanced dubbel I've ever tasted. Lots of complex taste, but no one aspect overpowered the others. Can't wait to try the others!

Poured from bottle into a St. Bernardus goblet. Dark mahogany color with a very light tan head. Head is about one finger width and dissipates quickly. Smells like very ripe fruit. Plums, and ripe banana. I think the taste follows the smell pretty well on this one. Sweet with very little hoppiness that I can detect. Very smooth and drinkable. Like most Belgian ales, it just gets better and more complex as it warms up.

Poured from a 330 ml bottle into a St. Bernardus branded goblet. Pours a chocolately/mahogany brown, with a two-finger ivory colored bubbly head that reduces to a thin frothy lid.

Has a pleasant smell, with yeast, tang, banana, dark fruit, and hints of chocolate.

Smooth and soft, it starts with mild chocolate, cloves and figs, becoming more tangy and less sweet as you get further into the beer. Hints of molasses and a sweet bread are present as well.

This manages to feel soft and carbonated, even frothy, all at the same time.

This gets better and better as you get further into it. The tastes meld wonderfully, and the feel is soft, airy and bubbly, yet with plenty of flavor to give it enough heft to remind you this is a darker beer. According to their website, the water used in their beer comes from a spring 150 meters below the earth, with water that "scientists have proved" is derived from rainfall from when Jeanne D'Arc was alive. Definitely give this a try, it has got to be my favorite dubbel thus far.
