Once the cork was popped, there was a huge gush. I had to do a mad rush to try and save as much as possible. Once poured, it was a light cloudy orange colour with huge white head and a little bit of lacing. Smells of sweet bubblegum and Belgian yeast with some spices. Flavour is much of the same, little bit of bitterness too, but quite sweet. Carbonation is a bit over-the-top, as evidenced by the gushing.

Appearance : Fauve-abricot, limpide, mousse de bulles moyennes, abondante et assez tenace, très saturée .
Smell : Arôme bien malté, nez de levure, alcoolisé, très agréable.
Taste and mouthfeel : Goût évolutif, picotant, fruité. Amère, ronde, corps correct. Arrière goût amer assez sec.
Drinkability : Bonne bière d'abbaye de style triple

Bottle: standard brown bottle, pretty ordinary Belgian label. They just can't seem to do decent labels.

Appearance: straw yellow in colour with a one-finger head that hangs about for a short time. Settles to almost nil with sporadic lacing.

Aroma: an intense aroma of Belgian yeasts, honey, citrus and biscuit malts. Pretty good.

Taste: plenty of spices with a touch of those citrus and biscuits. Definite Belgian yeast up front however.

Aftertaste: lingers well, with a gritty bitterness that sits well in the mouth.

Mouth feel: quite smooth, particularly as the beer continues to warm. Medium in body.

Overall: a pretty impressive but ultimately far too expensive Belgian Tripel. I do prefer the Tripels from The Little Brewing Co (Mad Abbot) or St Feuillien, both of which come in at a minimum of $20 cheaper than the case price of over AU$125 (2013).

Pours a dark, rich gold with intensely swirly carbonation, leading to a weightless 3" white head. Very nice lacing- even and in small clumps.

I have to pull hard to get much odor- it's a distinctly yeasty banana-bread.

the taste is wonderful and subdued- a balanced light banana, candy sugar, and light wheat bread.

mouthfeel is sublime. The carbonation folds out beautifully, and leaves a nice tingle on the tongue and a dryness, despite the creamy feel of the initial sip.

Dark gold in colour with high carbonation. Aromas are of light and slightly sweet malt, black pepper, and touches of grassy hops and banana. The flavors are somewhat fruity (a bit more banana and apricot) and sweet, but are balanced out by some spicy yeast notes. A bit of alcohol warming, but nothing over the top in that regard. No surprises, but this is a well made, balanced tripel.

Pale orange color is very pleasing to the eye, and the mad rush of carbonation feeds and inch tall head that stays around forever. The lacing on the sides of the goblet is quite nice too. The aroma is flowery and tropical with saffron, banana, coconut, and mango on the nose. The Taste is quite sweet with the fruity flavors mentioned above and alcohol warmth that reminds me of a mixed drink made with some rum. The finish is pungent and dry with slightly puckering hop bitterness and a peppery spiciness. A very well done Tripel that is now easily acquired in Georgia. In my opinion, sets the bar for the style.

0,33l bottle poured into tasting glass:
Smell of hops and herbs, light smell of malt and hay. Relatively long lasting and full white head. Slightly cloudy and light orange coloured beer. Palate: It has a full mouthtaste of first of all a moderate malt sweetness followed by a slightly sour and bitter hoppy finish with long lasting dryness.
Overall a very delicious Tripel.

a: diaphanous toasted grain with three fingers of whipped, white foam. This falls to a thick quilt of the same leaving cobwebs.
S: Clove, banana, coriander, musty yeast, grain, corn, a hint of pear.
T: Sharp and sweet with hints of amaretto. grain, yeast, looong finish is the amaretto. The finish here is what make the flavor so beautiful. Allows for long appreciation of the beer.
M: Medium on heavy with hi carb and a semi dry finish.
O: Really a great tripel. complex, playful, multilayered.

Got this one from the St. Bernardus gift pack. I love drinking beers from the brewery glass... this one pours a hazy, pale straw yellow with lots of yeast bits swirling in the glass. A fine, tenacious, inch tall head crowns the top.

A nice sweet, floral smell comes from the glass. Has that typical unique Belgian yeast smell. Nothing unusual in the aroma however.

A long sip yields classic Tripel. I really dig the Tripel style, and this is a great example of one. There's the spicy pear and banana flavor, and then some mild tannins and a hint of hops. Some dryness is present, along with a warming sensation from the (quite hidden) alcohol. Good stuff, very drinkable. Finish is moist, mouthwatering and reminds me of white grapes.

Mouthfeel is tangy and spicy, but full. Mild carbonation.

This is a pretty straight-up Tripel, everything it does it does well. I was expecting a little more complexity, I suppose, but for what is there I couldn't find much to complain about. Allagash still makes my favorite Tripel, but you certainly can't go wrong with St. Bernardus.

Pours a hazy golden color. You could call it tan, brown, orange, yellow, golden, flat out murky and I don't think any answer is wrong. Very thick foamy head that leaves a lot of lacing on the glass. Subtle hints of fruit spice and yeast in the aroma but nothing that'll just jump out at you. A very nice blend of citrus, spice, malt with a nice little alcohol presence in the flavor. A little tang and tart in the finish and aftertaste which is surely a sign of the alcohol content. While you know you're drinking alcohol it is balanced quite well. I like it.

This is the second St. Bernadus beer that I've had the pleasure of drinking. First impressions on the pour - beautiful, golden color and lots of activity from the carbonation, plus a big, thick and creamy head. Based on appearance alone this brew would receive a standing ovation from me. The smell disappoints a little as it is almost completely ether with only little hidden fruit/citrus. It tastes wonderfully malty and crisp with a nice, dry finish I've come to associate with these incredible Abbey brews. Perfectly balanced mouthfeel, creamy and light at the same time. On the way out of your mouth the beer leaves a sense of fruit, maybe even a little caramel, and the wonderful sweetness of the Tripel style beer. Overall, a great beer that is deserving of the title Abbey ale.

A: Pours a slightly hazy yellow-orange with three fingers of white head that fades into a thin cap with a little lacing.

S: Some spices up front followed by bubblegum and candy sugar aromas. There is a strong, chalky yeast aroma as well despite the bottle being stored upright for days and the pour carefully decanted.

T: Spices up front again along with candy sugar and bubblegum. Some light fruit flavors like bananas and grapes come through with a sweet, bready finish.

M: Medium-light body with highish carbonation, this beer is nicely attenuated so that it's pretty light and crisp. The yeast presence does detract from it, but only slightly.

O: A good tripel, overall, though I wish the yeast weren't quite so dominant. Still, it's tasty and very drinkable.

Got this one in a variety pack with a cool St. Bernardus goblet and Pater 6, Prior 8, and Abt 12. A good find!

Frothy white head and good lace. Head dies a little too fast. A light, golden blonde amber. Very murky, well carbonated.

Aroma is a malty lemon-peel. A peppery hay or straw.

Tastes yummy. Sour and a little bitter. A citrusy, malty, sweet aftertaste. The alcohol taste is complemented/masked well. Mouthfeel is excellent, full and bubbly. A very nice beer, although I don't quite see what all the fuss is about.

This is a nice tripel with a golden colour and a stable head.
Smell was coriander or grains of paradise(?) let's say herbal and some candy sugar notes. Also some maltiness and yeastiness.
Taste was fruity and spicy, so quite complex, after swallowing a bitter and dry aftertaste. some hops and light caramel or what I call amber/victorymalt taste. The hops add a citric note to the beer.
This beer has a nice balance between citric bittterness and the sweet, herbal taste. I think a tripel can be less sweet, which improved drinkability of the beer, but still very drinkable!

Dark than most tripels, St.Bx3 is amber with a big, bubbly head. No lace but the bubble bath of a head did leave a lumpy half moon retention.

Lots of yeasty spice at first but that slowly mellows as the beer warms. Burnt, sugary chamomile.

Taste yields more yeasty spice with a palette cleansing dry finish. Pasty herbal lemon drop and butter combats the spice.

Maybe I was expecting too much for such a renowned brewery and one of the holy trinity of tripels (Westmalle, Karmeliet, & St. Bernardus) but the butter and the spice didn't mesh for me and I didn't pick up on any of the sweet orchard fruits that others have mentioned. Still I'd put more than a few (but not many!) tripels above this one.

Pours a bit dark with the style with a billowing white head and a bit of lacing. Nice Belgian spice with some fruity aromas. Taste is similar with the addition of some clove. Medium body with good spicing. Drinkability isn't quite as good as many of the stalwarts of the style. Despite a nice taste, it doesn't leave me clamoring for more.

Pours a hazy golden with a medium white head. Smells strongly of pear and alcohol. Taste is light grain up front, a spicy yeast strain in the middle, and a hint of tartness in the finish. Very little appearance of alcohol which is nice, as it can be apparant in many tripels. Mouthfeel is mindbogglingly smooth, low carbonation. Very rich. Good drinkability. This isnt as good as some tripel's I have had, but it is a good beer that I would gladly drink again.

Pours hazy golden with monster creamy white head. Smells of belgian spices, some light fruits, and a bit of dry yeast. Taste is light fruits like pears and apples, along with some spiciness and funky dry yeast. Good beer. Enjoyed this more than the Watou version.

Corked & caged 750ml from a great BA (thanks Sean) split into Sam Adams Perfect Pint glasses with a mate.

A: Pale gold, clear until the yeast sediment hits, good carbonation, brilliantly white, soapy head leaves some ok lacing behind.

S: Banana, straw or grain, modest spices, slight medicinal & phenolic notes, soft fruit flesh, faint alcohol, bready, ghostly peppery finish.

T: Follows the nose, dry finish, bready, spices, faint green apples, apricot, faint, alcohol, touch of lemon peel and white wine characteristics.

MF: Medium-light, decent carbonation, drying mouthfeel.

O: Not as impressed by this as I thought I'd be, but its still a good beer, just not great.

Flavor is of spice and yeast, with the typical phenolic characteristics of most tripels. No alcohol, no malt, no hops noted.
Palate is light to medium, watery, lively carbonation

An unremarkable tripel which does not stand out from the crowd.

Cloudy orange in color, with a finger-thick white head. Great lace down the glass. Aroma is bready and yeasty, with spicy and grape-like notes. Flavor is very gently spiced and very smoothly balanced. Bits of orange, maybe some banana in the finish. Well-carbonated with a light mouthfeel and a dry finish. Still, this beer seems a bit "heavy" to me. The mouthfeel is perhaps a bit too creamy, and this could stand to be balanced by some additional tartness, or some extra kick in the hop department. Decent, but I couldn't drink several of these in a row.

L- pours a light yellow with 2 inch forming head.
S - grass, lemons, pear, smells creamy
T - So this is not at all my favorite style of beer but this is definitely a creamy triple - completely covered alcohol and really smooth. I get banana bread with heavy creamer baked into the little noted yeast. This is not what I would call a classic belgian triple because it's so good!
F - Like mentioned above, this is creamy good, great balance
O - this may have opened my eyes to the style I never thought I could enjoy. a very good beer

A - Poured a deep brown with a small off white head that faded rather quickly. Lots of nice lace down the side of the glass.

S - Smell was very fruity, hints of grain, along with pears, plums, apricots and apples. Sloght hint of alcohol as well in the back.

M & T - First impression was very smooth, not really a biting flazvor though. Nice and mellow for a triple. Lots of fruity tones mixed in with a nice spiceness. Hints of apricots and pears were the most prominent, along with a big alcohol kick.

D - Overall this was a nice triple and good beer. A little big to be an everyday one, but I really did enjoy it and it can occupy a spot in my fridge anytime.

An impressive display of effervescent carbonations shows through a light honey orange body just below a slowly fading dense frothy cap that leaves abundanct thick sticky lacing on the glass. While head retention is great overall it is not as persitent when compared to other tripels.

Aromas of bitter yeast, solvents, a bit of orange zest, citrus blossoms and tropical fruits come through on a moderately perfumed nose.

Gentle tropical fruit flavors, notably papaya and tangerine, make a modest entrance with hints of yeast and medicinal phenols peaking through on the mid palate toward a smooth slightly fruity and floral finish. This brew leaves a very pleasing mild aftertaste featuring a bit of sweet fruit and earthy yeast. Flavor is very subtle and refined, on the other side of the coin it doesn't make a big impact leaving a bit to be desired.

Very slick and unctuous, this has a medium body and moderately full mouthfeel that allows it to go down with ease.

A great example of a tripel!

With the Housemartins " Five Get Over Excited " on the Hi-Fi . I am about to crack into this capped , caged , and corked bottle with the Col. Meril Stubing from the Love Boat on the front . He - the monk on front , reminds me of Brother Rich who was my English teacher at the Franciscan Friar school which will remain nameless . Poured into my Rapscallion snifter the head is large and the golden color is murky . Glowing gold when held to the light . 2 finger head has reduced to a thin head with some lacing . Smells of honey and banana . The mouthfell is pleasant and the carbonation is smooth . This is the 2nd brew from St. Bernardus that I have tried , and just like the ABT 12 worth the time and money .
