8/5/19...pours cloudy golden bronze with rings of white foam. Citrus and floral nose. Citrus filled bitter. Oily resins throughout. Residual bitter. Simple but tasty.

I'm drinking from the can today so I cant say much on the appearance other than the can caught my eye so I'll give it a 4.

The smell is pine, grapefruit, orange peel.

The taste is mainly grapefruit. Lots of grapefruit. Citrus peel (orange, lemon, lime).

Mouthfeel is bitter like grapefruit juice. Alc completely covered. Aftertaste is lingering citrus peel bitterness.

Overall, a damn good beer for the price and location (small town convenience store). I was thinking I'd be getting Yuengling and this was a nice surprise.

Pours a light brown with minimal aroma. Still, the flavor makes up for any shortcomings. Good mouthfeel with robust flavor and nice hop profile. A very drinkable IPA.

My local, in-person trader, tone77, has expressed some CANcern about my backlog, especially as it pertains to ones that he has dropped off for The CANQuest (tm). I am doing my best to plow through & get caught up. Disappointingly, there are many without approved pics & my trusty camera has died! Some are just going to have to wait until I CAN procure a replacement.

From the CAN: "A Small Brewery with a Big Story"; "Handcrafted in Alabama"; "#TrunksUp"; "It all started in 1913, when a circus performer, Miss Fancy the Elephant, inadvertently became the city of Avondale's greatest icon. Known as the Queen of Avondale, Miss Fancy performed tricks in Avondale Park. Her favorite pastime was parading down Spring Street, aided by her handler, Mr. Todd, guzzling bootlegged beer an whiskey confiscated by Prohibition officers. It's to heroes such as this that we raise our glasses and say, Trunks up!"; "The Battlefield IPA is a new twist on an American India Pale Ale. Our master blend of West Coast hops and the finest American and European malt distinguishes itself from many IPAs on the battlefield. A hoppy citrus and floral nose invites you to experience the perfectly balanced IPA. Our heroic ale gets its name from the only Civil War battle fought in Jefferson County, Alabama. During the skirmish, shots were exchanged near the house of the town sheriff. A stray bullet struck the sheriff's wife in the breast as she stood on the porch of her house. Luckily, she made a full recovery, and a ceasefire was called on both sides.": "62 IBU".

Lots to CANscribe, but the Crack! takes precedence since nothing important CAN happen without it. In this case, a slow, gentle Glug was immediately followed by a vigorous in-glass swirl. This, in turn, raised just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head that left a load of nice lacing in its wake. Color was a slightly-hazy Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9), but it could be chill haze from my reefer running rather cool vs. tonight's heat & humidity. Nose had a pronounced earthiness with loads of pine resin and dank at the forefront and underlain by a lightly smoky, earthy maltiness. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was very cool & minty, very much of pine, but again with an earthy maltiness that kind of put me in mind of an English IPA. Do not misunderstand, however. I am not saying that it needs a change in style, in fact, with their measured IBUs, that would be silly & leave me open to more ridicule than usual. No, instead, it just left me curious as to what malts were employed. In the interim, as the beer warmed to room temperature, it began to clarify, so I will chalk its earlier haze to my reefer. Finish was dry, slightly bitter, but of the two AL-born AIPAs that I had tonight, I liked this one better. It seemed to strike a little better balance between its use of malt & hops. YMMV.
