Fantastic west coast style IPA. Very well balanced between the citrus and pine notes. Ever since this beer was re-worked this year it has quickly become my go to IPA and far and away the best in Alabama.

A - This beer is a rich golden hue with a healthy finger or two of head that stays.

S - The smell is citrusy and makes me think of cascade and columbus hops. The clean hop aroma is very pleasing to a hophead like myself and gets my saliva flowing prior to tasting this IPA.

T - The taste follows the smell. The hop flavor on the front end is fresh and clean and, while prevalent, not overwhelming. Caramel notes are present and pair with the hop blend extremely well. The finish on this beer is clean and does not leave a bitter taste unlike many IPAs.

M - The feel is best described as rich and creamy without being heavy at all.

O - This is definitely my favorite beer of Avondale's and my go to IPA when out and about, or in their tasting room. A good session IPA in my book and also a good choice for the citrus hop lover or the hoppy pale ale fan.

I'm very impressed with this beer. Has a hint of piney notes with some citrus an floral notes as well. Fairly standard for a strong American IPA, but the piney flavors really balance out the bitterness and make it a great beer.

Poured from the can into a pint glass. The appearance is a slightly cloudy golden amber with a medium sized white head. The aroma is full of citrus and piney hops. The taste matches the aroma.

L- Pours a dark amberish hazy color. Very bubbly. Big thick head that dissipates very quickly.
S- Very citrusy/floral. I get notes of grapefruit. Slight boozy smell that balances behind it.
T- It has a great floral/grapefruit flavor that you'd get with many IPA's. Very bitter after the first sip, but the second seems to be less harsh on the taste buds.
F- It's hazy, so it's fairly thick. It's also fairly carbonated.
O- Exceptional IPA. I've had this once at avondale, and this time I got it at home in Mobile. I would definitely try it. Birmingham knows whats up.

Served in a pint glass on-tap at the Silvertron. From notes. Reviewed 19 August 2011.

A: Nice finger of head, creamy and tight. Clearish copper colour with faint bubbles within. Pretty beer that glows in the light. Great lacing.

S: Fantastic! I can smell grapefruit from across the table. Strong, pungent hops that grow gentler with exposure, providing a rewarding depth of scent. This is what an IPA should smell like; brilliant.

T: Good, if...quirky. The hops are recognizable, even if I can't put my finger on them. Chinook? Fuggles? (Very different hops, I realise, but the website confirms that Battlefield uses a blend of English and American hops.) Less citrusy than expected, with a strong hop presence that is astringently bitter (but not unpleasantly so) and has a slightly vegetal feel. A little bit like chewing on mild hops. The aftertaste is lingering and bitter. The beer is mildly balanced, but obviously hop-heavy.

M: Great combination of smooth-tingly and dry-wet. Really nice.

O: A surprisingly excellent IPA for Birmingham, Alabama. Superficially similar to Birmingham's Good People IPA, but less balanced and more intense. I have hope for Alabama's brewing scene. Definitely recommended. Will seek out to have again.
