16oz canned on 06/24/2020 "HELL YEAH!" 6.7% ABV. This one is from a 4-pack that I grabbed at Pavillions in Marina del Rey, CA. Stoke to see them carry some El Segundo beers.

Pours a bright, pale golden with smidge of unfiltered haze and thick, foamy white head and sticky lace. Nose is grassy, citrus, and a bit tropical and floral. Crisp, smooth, creamy, and light-bodied. Tons of fruity hop bitterness with grapefruit, tropical, melon, citrus rinds, pine, and resin notes. The semi-sweet, toasty, bready malty backbone pushes back just enough to provide some balance. Bone-dry, grassy, and semi-astringent finish.

HELL YEAH! (Insert Stone Cold Steve Austin Beer Smash GIF) Steve Austin's Broken Skull IPA is an old-school West Coast IPA brewed with three of my favorite hops; Citra, Cascade, and Chinook. Since moving to SoCal, this beer has become one of my favorite local beers. I try to buy it whenever I see it. And so should you.

"And that's the bottom line! Why?! Cause Stone Cold said so!"

Austin 3:16 says I just shit my pants!

I popped the top and proceeded to pour the beer down my throat. After throwing a look to JR I gave my boss a double middle finger and dropped his ass with the Stone Cold Stunner.

And that's the bottom line 'cause Stone Cold said so.

Broken Skull pours a dark, golden yellow with a full and foamy white head. The smell is classic West Coast IPA, big and bolg with a dose of pine, citrus and stone fruit with a hint of sweetness. The taste starts with a resinous pine with citrus including grapefruit, bitter orange, a slight hint of floral with a melon sweetness

Okay, celebrity beers are not always great. Looking at you Iron Maiden, but former WWF/ E Steve Austin's beer doesn't disappoint and I have been waiting for this to make its way out to Maryland.

The look gets a 5, what a fucking great appearance. By which I mean the natural sediment just sits there in a suspension that you cannot stop. You can easily see it through the semi-light golden hue. A west-coast specialty from years since removed by the trendiness of hazy this and that's.

If you're looking for a candle ready beer smell, this is it. If there were to be a blended IPA smell. This. Is what west coast beers should be.

AH, yes. Yes. YES. This is the flavor of 2012. A style long forgotten, ruined by manipulation of whatever trend is spewing through based on hepcat nonsense. West coast juiciness with a solid malt finish, ale yeast, and god damn a semi-sweet finish.

Nope this is excellent in all ways. And I mean it.

16oz can poured into a pint

A- pours a slightly hazy pale yellow color with a one-finger foamy white head that has good retention

S- piney hops on the nose, with compliments of orange and grapefruit peel, hint of lemon, bready malt undertone

T- piney and citrus hop notes up front with some orange peel, bready malt undertones, hint of lemon

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that continues into a crisp finish

O- a nice straight up IPA with good drinkability. And that's the bottom line, 'cuz Stone Cold said so!

16oz can dated 2/17/20.

Pours clear yellow with an inch of white fluff. Decent retention and lacing. Dank and piney in the nose. Medium bodied with a crisp mouthfeel. A bit tacky. Green onions with zesty citrus on the palate. Finishes with a drying bitterness, zero malt, and lingering dankness.

Its a pale straw, translucent with a nice head. Doesn't look like a stand out and the scent is quite muted. But surprisingly, the taste is very complex, mildly sweet and fruity, tastes of pine or mint as well. Softer on the tongue than most IPAs, and a lighter ABV than most crafts so it'd be a nice session too. I gotta give this one an OH HELLL YEAA..

Poured out of a 16 oz can into one of my many pint glasses, this beer pours a pretty clear, medium golden color with a nice, fluffy looking white head that's well over an inch thick when first poured. Head settles eventually to a very thick ring surrounding the inside of the glass, big cluster film layer swirls of of foam on the beer's surface, and excellent lacing. Aromas of some bready, just slightly zesty, malts along with some pretty big tangerine and grapefruit citrus notes as well as a bit of pine dankness. Flavors of some ready, just slightly zesty, malts along with some pretty big tangerine and grapefruit citrus along with a bit of piney dankness hop bitterness are all present here. Nicely balanced flavor profile overall. Has a crisp, smooth, and frothy, light bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. A very refreshing beer with a clean finish. A good beer here.

16oz canned 3/12/20. Opened 4/17/20.
2 finger white head with a 1/4" dome cresting over the rim of the glass. Good staying power with a slow, steady recession. Sudsy lacing. Golden/copper IPA with a slight chill haze but otherwise clear an clean.
Sweet malt, caramel and dough. Floral, pine, orange - absolute WC OG aroma.
Pine, weeds, green, orange zest / pith. Big malt backbone for an IPA in 2020...nice doughy flavor, especially late.
Light to medium body, medium to medium high carbonation. Well balanced between malt and hops. Medium length piney and floral finish.
Nice WCIPA, enjoyed the C-Hops, both new and old school.
Very good.

Smooth beer with great taste that can be a day drinker. Not too strong not too bitter just a nice smooth ipa. Nose is full of hoppy notes and finishes clean. Really like it.

A: The beer is crystal clear yellow in color and has a light to moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high bright white head that gradually died down, leaving a few specks of bubbles on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of piney hops are present in the nose along with notes of citrusy hops.
T: Like the smell, the taste has a strong dose of piney hops in the taste along with notes of citrusy hops. There is a moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and very crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This IPA really showcases the piney aromas and flavors of the Chinook hops - which is in interesting change of pace compared to most IPAs these days - but has an interesting contrast with the underlying notes of citrusy hops.

Appearance: Not much of a head here but a few dots hang around as it fades; the liquid is amber colored

Smell Citrus and pith aromatics

Taste: CItrus forward, with grapefruit and orange tones; quite bitter and pithy, through the middle and into the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: The bitterest of the El Segundo IPAs I sampled this trip and I think I prefer the more delicate hop profiles of the Mayberry and some of the others I have had in the past

As a wrestling fan for as long as I've been alive, I'm pleased too see that some of this beer made it all the way up here. Packaged on 2/13/20 so it's a little old. I couldn't say no either way. Pours a bright golden hue with a thin head into my glass. Citrus and pine, an old school feel in the nose. It drinks like an old school, west coast IPA too with light citrus, pine and a doughiness that I like which I feel is missing from most 'modern' IPAs. The finish is clean and crisp with a nice touch of lingering bitterness. I'm impressed and I don't think that I've ever reviewed anything from El Segundo. Well worth picking this up and I wonder if they are continuing to produce it?

And before you think that I'm rating it this high just because of Stone Cold, you're damn right! Better than I expected it to be!
