Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Clear 16-oz. Bruges beer glass
From: Bine & Vine Bottle Shop in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $2.24 with 10 percent off for a variety 6-pack
Purchased: Sept. 1, 2017
Consumed: Sept. 5, 2017
Reviewed as: American Pale Ale
Misc.: Bottled on Aug. 22, 2017

Picked this up on a recent trip to Bine & Vine as part of a variety 6-pack (and 10 percent off). Had this before, giving a full pour a 3.75 back on Dec. 31, 2015. Did not have any comments on it. Generally an El Segundo fan and was looking forward to reviewing this. Bottle read, “A straight forward Amercian (bottle actually read Amercian, not American), Pale Ale. American two-row barley, a touch of Vienna malt, Then, an irresponsible amount of dry-hopping Citra for a unique aromatic experience. Pour vivaciously into your favorite tapered fully glass to enjoy.” The hops appear to be Citra, Chinook and Cascade from their website.

Poured a pale-to-gold clear color with three fingers of rocky white head. Lots of fast-moving bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. World-class sporadic foamy lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.50)

Smelled dry-hopped Citra, spoiled peach, buttery malts, fresh-cut grass, lime, pine, guava, tangerine peel, pear and hints of green apple. (Smell - 3.75)

Tasted dry-hopped Citra, spicy Chinook, buttery malts, peach peel, fresh-cut grass, spoiled mango, dry guava, bitter tangerine rind and pear. (Taste - 3.50)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Dry, bitter finish. (Feel - 3.50)

This was a very good pale ale. Not sure I’d want more than one of this though. (Overall - 3.75)

Pours a lovely light golden with a stream of tiny bubbles supporting the fizzy white head. Head fades, but a small cap remains and whispy lacing is left behind.
Smells citrusy, but no backing sweetsness is detected.
Taste is where it fails me, and mouthfeel. It has no malt backbone supporting the hops, and is on the watery side. Don't know why they wouldn't just market it as a Session IPA, given how well that IPA tag sells. Hop water, but even the hops aren't coming through that strongly (and this is a week-old bottle). Not a fan of the session IPA, and this doesn't work for me as a pale.

I’m not sure why, but I really enjoy this beer. It has a skunky bud like aroma with a buttery finish!

I could kill this all day
