Just about black in color with a dense khaki colored head. The nose is heavy on the roasted malt with some coffee and a bit of dark chocolate. A touch of cocoa powder, some faint hops, and that's about it. Mild sweetness on the palate followed by lots of roast, coffee, cocoa, and dark chocolate. Lightly bitter, but also somewhat watery and thin. The carbonation is smooth and creamy, however.

Dark oily-looking near-black brew in the tall tulip. Thin foam that renews a little when you swirl the glass. Insistent taste of coffee at first, but then it seems to fade into lots and lots of dark malt.

It covers the spectrum of roasted malt from warm to burnt. A rich winey taste followed by sweet malt, plus some bitterness. A touch of blackberry jam, though bittered up with hops. At the finish it still tastes like cold coffee. Pleasant aroma of roasted grains and chocolate.

Quite a mouthful of flavor. El Segundo seems to be one of the up and coming southern Calif breweries. On tap at Local Habit in San Diego.

On tap at Beer Belly in Los Angeles, CA.

Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy khaki head that fades to nothing. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, licorice, and some cookie dough aromas. Taste is pretty much the same with an alcohol kick with each sip. There is a mild roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a low level of carbonation with an almost flat mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but the carbonation is off and it's a bit thin in my opinion.
