On tap at the brewery.
A pretty solid version of a straight forward, no frills American version.
Deep, dark, nearly black pour. Not the most interesting head development.
Nose and taste start off with roast, then some mild chocolate notes.
Mouthfeel is chewy enough, slightly warm.

i’m rating the 2020 version here. enjoying it at ESBC from a flight. it weighs in at 11.50% ABV. it’s complex. it’s nice. it’s not at all a go-to for the style. VERY unique. it has a lot of overtones and particular tasting notes. i’m having a hard time putting my finger on it. seems a little off for a stout but quite right for a barrel aged.

Pours a motor oil black, as promised, with a thin layer of bubbles. Strong smell of roasted malts. Nice, thick, mouthfeel with a strong coffee flavor and hint of dark berries. Great stout, and I don't really notice the 10.3% alcohol but I'm sure I'll be feeling it in a minute.

Pours a thin tan head on a black body.
The aroma is roasted malt, coffee, tobacco and a little dark fruit.
The taste is dark chocolate bitter sweetness. Finishes with an nice alcohol heat.
The texture is smooth and thick.
Really nicely done.

Poured from the bottle into a snifter glass.
Creamy and full espresso dark brown head. Standing two fingers tall in the snifter bowl, thick and rich. Settles nicely with a bit of lacing, coating and giving off even an orange like hue. Body color is classic black walnut, just a bit of clarity held up to the light and showing a real nice red dark edge as well. Great looking beer.
Excellent aroma off the pour and first whiff of the nose. Good roast and hints of spicy like chocolate notes, diving somewhere between clove and cinnamon like flavors. A bit of and char like notes as well, with a hint of woody pine like heat and bitterness coming off just a little too. Very inviting for a basic imperial stout. Great job so far.
Palate just sings on first sip. Lush and velvety silky thick body, with a nice thick quality but not sludgy or syrupy flavors. Big roasted char and hitting of coffee dark notes. Finishes with excellent bitter dark cocoa powder flavors, and tops off with a spicy tobacco. A great warm big and thick black licorice flavor just envelopes everywhere after some time. Not even a hint of big booze on this either, drinks so easily well.
What an excellent solid imperial stout these guys make here, and I thought the IPAs were fantastic as it was. Really doing a great job down there I must say.
