Pulling up out front from a shared ride presents patrons with an interesting first impression. While bars across the main street are loud and busy, El Segundo Brewing sits quietly on a corner. Going down the steps presents the patron with restrooms immediately. It isn't until stepping around the corner that it's clear this is a brewery, with the ceilings rising to accommodate brew equipment. A small indoor seating area with a large "L" shaped bar offer patrons a place to sit indoors and order beer. A garage door at the back spills the seating out into the open area, looking out over a parking lot. Patrons could also enter the facility this way, although it's less clear to first time visitors. Vibe is pretty standard older brewery, with high wood-topped tables and concrete floors. It's not the flashy modern or sterile vibe so many breweries put out today, it's clear this taproom has been around awhile but without looking extremely dated. Tap list selection is fair, spanning a wide array of styles. To-go selection is the same. Service is solid, keeping things moving quickly.

My last visit was early March 2000 so I don't know how they are doing currently. But since my first visit they have expanded into a very nice indoor and outdoor space around part of the brewing facility. Several standard beers but some interesting seasonals or oddballs as well. Generally very good and mostly in the West Coast style.
Cans as well as crowlers to take home. If you're heading south from LA it's actually not too far off the freeways, though it seems like an intriguing backwater that is literally on the way to nowhere, except the beach.

El Segundo Brewing is located on Main Street in the City of El Segundo which is near LAX. I found this area more quaint, I suppose, than most other parts of Los Angeles. I saw nice eateries around, so you can have beers here before or after a meal.
If you enter from the street level, the taproom is downstairs. The space was not overly large, so it can get packed quickly. There was a L-shaped bar with about 12-15 seats. They also had more seating with tables. You can see the production area blend in with the taproom which I like to see. The servers were quick, friendly and welcoming.
I had a flight of five tasters of various styles. I enjoyed the vanilla stout the most.
Nice brewery/taproom in a nice area. If you have a layover at LAX, it might be a good place to visit for good beers.

One of my favorites in LA, ESBC, while primarily IPAs, does offer some great other beers. Their "bursted" series was a lot of fun as it really let you taste the difference in the hops and how they changed over time.
