Using a multi-step mash process, our brewers have created a mahogany coloured beer with amazing body and mouthfeel. This brew is cool fermented and cold conditioned resulting in a refreshing, clean tasting ale.
A blend of the best Alberta-grown malted barleys - Superior Pale and Superior Pils – is enhanced by caramel and chocolate specialty malts. A combination of Tettnanger and Saaz hops round out this brew.

From a 500 ml flip-top brown bottle. Pours out a dark yet translucent nut brown, creamy off-white head.

Dry nut and some coffee on the nose, some perfume-y hops in the background.

Cocoa nibs, toasted malt and mild coffee up front in the flavour. All very clean and somewhat dry. Mild floral hops on the finish.

Medium-bodied mouthfeel, somewhat slippery texture, moderate carbonation.

Alt's are pretty rare as it is, however this still reminds me more of a Southern Brown than anything else. Still quite enjoyable though for what it is, I'll be picking up a couple more while they last.

Hazy brown colour, one finger off white head, some lace. Smell is grainy and malty, lighly roasted, caramel and toffee nutty notes, light lactic presence. A little sour initially, some roasty nut, big malt profile, moderate hop presence, some caramel and biscuit as well. Light carb, light weight, good feel, medium body. Not bad and the sourness got pleasant going forward, but not my favorite though.

A: Deep chestnut brown, off-white head, thin ring of retention leaves a little lace.

S: Great floral hop aroma, slightly grainy biscuit, hints of nut.

T: There's a light grainy sourness right up front that spoils this one. Floral, peppery and slightly herbal hopping, nutshell bitterness, roasted nut, dark toffee, hints of dark rye bread and Christmas cake. Some fruity esters, but no sulfur from the yeast.

M: Well-attenuated, light to moderate body has an off-dry finish.

D/O: A decent drinker. On the dark side for the style (and a bit roasty). Unfortunate for the grainy sourness.

Taste like a black bitter. Malty aroms. Blackish colour with foamy head. Creamy, sugary, chocolate malt.Average mouthfeel. A half pint though is a lot of sugar and creamy foam. Only faint roast. OK, but not my cup of tea. On tap at Bottlescrew Bill's.

500ml seasonal offering bottle. Very nice to see this make its way up Highway 2!

This beer pours a clear, dark reddish amber hue, with one thick finger of foamy, creamy ecru head, which leaves a Swiss cheese paint job of lace around the glass in its wake. One damned fine lookin' beer! It smells of toasted biscuit malt, bitter black tea, and a bit of wet ash. The taste is more toasted biscuit, some sweet nuttiness, very faint dry chocolate, mildly tart orchard fruit, and earthy, leafy hops. The carbonation is moderate, the body medium weight, smooth, and even a tad creamy. It finishes with a strong dry sensation, pushing the lingering malt aside.

Not a style with which I have a lot of experience - that said, I'm quite impressed by the multi-layered dry, yet malty nature. Could definitely go a few rounds or more with this, should I have the opportunity.

500ml poured into a Sam Adam Perfect Pour glass
A - clear deep cherry brown, medium off white head dissipated to a think covering with respectable lacing
S - sweet buttery toffee, cherries, leafy, and a little cedar
T - carame, light chocolate and cherry, buttery bread, leafy hop bitterness, with a light smokiness to finish
M - medium carbonation, relatively smooth with a mix of bitter and bready
D - full flavour and enjoyment on this one, definitely tastes like they made a strong effort on this, Wild Rose usually makes it happen with their seasonals

500ml swing top poured into pint glass mar26 2011

A clear brownish copper with a dense tan head that hangs around long enough to leave a couple partial rings of lace

S earthy tea with some toffee and toasted bread

T what I smell but rather nutty and some faint chocolate and cold coffee, pretty earthy and plenty of flavor

M enters silky and creams up a little due to the bubbles, medium bodied and just a little bite

O no complaints with this one I could drink this all day without issues, big flavors for a 5% brew and very easy to drink

not only do I think this brews a pleasure to drink its a few bucks cheaper then their other seasonal brews. I'd like to see this one in the regular line up at their 6pack prices, I would drink this often and I think it would do well for them if available year round

One of Wild Rose's Seasonal Offerings...

A - Pours a nice dark red/mahogany colour, solid finger of creamy tan head with solid retention and some nice sticky lacing.

S - Scent is a bit musty with some definite wheat-y and yeast presence, some malted caramel and sweet toffee notes, and a grassy hop presence on the finish.

T - Surprisingly flavourful, with some nice bready caramel flavours, some espresso and dark cocoa notes and the grassy hops coming through on the finish. A bit of an oak presence and an all-around earthy flavour that lingers.

M - Medium bodied ale that goes down smooth and finishes with a touch of dryness.

O - I must admit that I did not have high expectations coming into this one, so I was definitely pleasantly surprised by it. The bold flavours were a welcome treat and made for a memorable experience. Easily drinkable and would be the perfect beer for a session. I would love to try this on tap, and I would highly recommend grabbing a bottle while it's still available.
