Had on tap. Robust and roasty both in body and taste, with a little biscuit and vanilla to brighten it up slightly. Coffee and smokiness dominate the aromas, but there are hints of chocolate and vanilla. God complexity and depth for a "standard" RIS, definitely on the heavy side. Perfect for a winter evening by the fire.

12 ounce bottle into a snifter. Bottled late 2017, had 2/5/18.
Pours very dark and opaque, with a two inch foamy head and lots of foamy lacing. Nice retention, too. Aromas of roasted malt, cocoa, vanilla, coffee- more as it warms, some raisins, light chocolate, caramel as it warms, light smoke. The taste is roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, light chocolate and molasses. Some malt bitterness. Smooth, very creamy, a good full body, well carbonated.
Best surprise of the Advent calendar, by far. Great aroma and flavor, all the add-ins are distinct, and the creaminess adds to the overall enjoyment of the beer. Let this one get nice and warm, it really opens up. Very well done, hope this comes around more often.
