A straight up APA? In the year of our lord twenty-twenty one? And... gasp.... at less than 10 bucks a six pack?!?

Bottles purchased direct from the brewery 6 days ago.

The pour is a bit limp: very dark for the style, but with very little visible body or fizz. A bit of color separation, too.

Aroma is old-school and inviting. Caramel and biscuit malts, sharply citric American hops. Nice balance. It smells like an extract, perhaps, but there's nothing inherently wrong with extract brewing so long as it owns up to being what it is and behaves accordingly.

Okay... tastes significantly better than a good extract. I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions. It's one of the most straightforward heavy-ish APA's I've had in a long while, and that's not a bad thing. Bread and nuts up front, tangy hops in the back (I wouldn't be surprised if there's something British in here, but I can't quite place it), and then a nice, spicy finish.

Bottled 12/18/14; drank 1/26/15 @ the Yarchives.

Murky dark orange appearance.

Big eggshell head; frothy lace.

Honey, fresh flowers & lemon rind nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Honey, mild caramel & lemon flavors up front; fresh flowers on the drying finish.

Just a hint too bitter for me, but flavorful & enjoyable.

Pours a clear copper color. 3/2 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of sweet malt, pale malt, slight piney hops, hint of honey, yeast, and alcohol. Fist the style of an American Pale Ale. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp, with a high carbonation level. There is also a slight metallic feel. Tastes of sweet malt, pale malt, slight piney hops, hint of honey, yeast, hint of wheat, and alcohol. Overall, good appearance, too carbonated, metallic notes are a detriment, and average otherwise.

Poured from bottle to IPA glass. Near-clear and glows golden. Tons of head that melts like ice cream in a float, and lots of active carbonation. Aroma is caramel malts, floral hops, honey, pine resin. Taste is floral and grapefruit forward with a big ol malt backbone. Tons of lacing, great head retention.

12 ounce bottle into a tulip glass. No date on bottle- guess the machine missed it, but recent release.

Pours a cloudy light amber, with a two inch head on a harder pour, lots of foamy lacing. Smell is grapefruit and orange hops, pine, light malt, spices- maybe coriander, some yeast, bready. The pine is a little more prevalent in the taste, followed by grapefruit and orange hops, malt, some yeast, light spices. A good amount of bitterness throughout, more at the finish. Smooth, dry, somewhat refreshing, well carbonated, the bitterness lingers.

This batch seems above the overall average, so far. Really nice bitterness, a solid, fuller body for the style. Liked it. Look forward to the next batch.
