No head really with scattered lacing on a jet black body. Aroma is light like so many of this brewers brews with mostly light roasted malts and coffee and a subtle vanilla sweetness. Flavors include roasted malts, oats, coffee bitterness and minimal earthy hops. Medium to full body and light to moderate carbonation. A little dark chocolate sweetness rounds this one out. A nice traditional oatmeal stout as drinkable and good as these can be.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with awesome retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted oats, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of nuttiness, vanilla, smoke, char, dark fruit, herbal, wood, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. A bit too yeasty, but not overpowering. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted oats, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of nuttiness, vanilla, smoke, char, dark fruit, herbal, wood, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light roast/char and herbal/woody/spicy hop bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted oats, dark/brown bread, nuttiness, smoke, char, dark fruit, herbal, wood, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance; and zero acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 6.7%. Overall this is a delicious oatmeal stout. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Absolutely spot on English style example. Nicely rich and complex English malts; with mild complementing EKG hops and fruity English yeast. A very enjoyable offering.

Pours black with one and a half fingers of brown head. Head has decent retention but doesn't leave much lacing. Smells of roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate and grain. Taste starts off very roasty, before bitter chocolate comes through. Oats provide a bit of silkiness. More roast than a typical oatmeal stout, but really tasty.

12 ounce bottle into a snifter. Bottled 11/17/16, had 1/9/17.

Pours a dark brown, kind of a cola color, fairly opaque, with a quickly dissipating half inch foamy head and some soapy lacing. The smell is roasted malts, coffee, some chocolate and caramel, light vanilla and cocoa. The taste also leads with the roasted malts, then coffee, dark chocolate, more vanilla than the nose, some caramel. A fair amount of bitterness throughout, especially for the listed 46 IBU. Mostly smooth, somewhat creamy, well carbonated. The body feels a little light, but not thin.

A solid oatmeal stout, enjoyable to drink. Worth a try.

Served on draft at Ashley's in Westland, MI.

Appearance- Pours jet black with a 1/4 inch jamocha head that slowly fizzles out into a veil-y halo around the glass.

Smell- Burnt roasty coffee notes, oatmeal tartness. No doubt where this one's going.

Taste- Cold Sumatran coffee, a little booziness, dry bitter malts, faint black licorice notes, robust Cameroon wrap cigar finish coats the mouth. Tart sweet oatmeal sugar on the teeth as an afterthought. A good example of the style.

Mouthfeel- smooth and creamy with a slight mineral water fizz. Pretty standard.

Overall- a great example of the style. Nothing extraordinary, but if I wanted an oatmeal stout, I'd reach for this one any time. A very sessionable stout. Perhaps a good base to build off of for some added chocolate, coffee, barrel aging, etc. for Greenbush in the future. I dig stouts, so this would be a go-to for sure.

Cheers!
