12 ounce bottle into a snifter. Bottled 11/17/14. Have had fresher, let this one age slightly more than a year.
Pours a deep amber, garnet on the edges. Small head, some foamy lacing. Smells of malt, plums, figs, dates, raisins, slight red wine. Taste follows the nose with the malt, plums, figs, raisins, dates. Also caramel, prunes, brown sugar. Light alcohol. Fairly smooth, good body- but maybe a touch light for the style. Good level of carbonation.
This is a good beer that's true to the style. Letting it age seemed to bring out the depth of the flavor and aroma. Worth a purchase, especially if you're at Greenbush when you do.

Served in a snifter at Beer Market - Schaumburg.
The musical set here is surprisingly good... ...Anyway, this stuff pours a very dark, slightly murky midnight sienna topped by a half-finger of off-khaki foam. The nose comprises dates, light maple syrup, dark fruits, brown sugar, and a touch of rye bread. The taste brings in more of the same, that heapin' helpin' of dates really coming through and choking out all competitors. The body is a solid medium, bordering on hefty, with a light moderate carbonation and a generally smooth feel. Overall, a surprisingly solid beer, but one whose enjoyment is predicated on your taste for dates.
