Poured from a 22oz bottle into a Half Acre snifter.
No bottle date. Cool label. Complementing color schemes throughout.

If you liked Southern Tier's Creme Brulee stout, you'll want this. You'll want it bad. Enjoyed the mouthfeel on this one. Nice to have something more dense after a lot of thinner stouts. Boozy. Good boozy. Excellent.

Appearance : Black pour with a thin, firm ring; reminds me of freshly poured coffee.

Smell : I can smell rye malt, hot whiskey, tobacco, tart cherries, plum, licorice, coffee, and booze. It's kind of a mess but it's not terrible. Kind of like sugary rubbing alcohol.

The flavor is pretty strong straight out of the gate, and is painful to hold in the mouth, but it starts pretty dirty with rolled tobacco and old dark cherries. Notes of plum, strong acidic and acetone-like whiskey, coffee, ash, and tart cherry on the finish.

The feel is acidic and ripping, and I actually feel numbness on my tongue and the roof of my mouth after just a couple sips. Burns all the way down. Shamefully overcarbonated. It's just not pleasant. You don't make a prickly imperial stout.

I mean, this is okay, but I'd be really disappointed if I had bought a ton of these. It's basically tobacco, bad whiskey, and spoiled cherries. I realize that can notate infection but this is rather fresh and I haven't heard of any infected batches of delusion. Egh.

Very creamy and smooth. Alcohol is hidden very well. If whisky is your thing then you will love this beer. Taste of light chocolate and vanilla with a slight bitterness. Good spiciness from the whisky barrel. Smells of whisky and vanilla.

Thanks Prager62.
Consider this an aged review as I see "MFG 11.3.16" stamped in white on the side of the label.
This was poured into a snifter.
In the appearance category, the pour was thick with a semi-glub glub sort of sound inking out into my glass. The color was dark brown close to black that had a thick finger and a half's worth of eggshell white foamy head that clung nicely and then slid into light legs that spread apart fairly nice.
The aroma captured a wonderful blend of sweet and spicy rye to meld a gentle earthy to woody barrel and then bring in some milk chocolate, some dried dark fruits and a stealthy little bit of dark chocolate compensating nicely.
The flavor finetuned the sweet to the spicy to the roast and a quivering little bitterness all deceptively roaming in and around each other. Light milk/creamy sweetness here. Exceptional balance between the spicy woody barrel to the milk chocolate creaminess in the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied and allowing it to be a nice sipper. Carbonation seemed to start to drop off just an inkling but still keeping it from becoming cloying. Nice dried dark fruity to milk chocolate and slightly pepper-like to spicy woody barrel sort of finish.
Overall, an exceptional barrel aged imperial stout well worthy of partaking in again if given the chance.
