Bottle of this from cpferris. Had never heard of this beer, let alone this brewery, so thanks for introducing me to something new man!

From a bomber into a snifter
Imperial cream stout on rye whiskey.

APPEARANCE: A dark brown pour, almost black, yields a one finger, looser, mocha colored head with good retention. Black body with medium carbonation evident. Head fades to a full wisp and ring, though only a ring remains leaving a few falling dots of lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Whiskey barrel for sure, with oak and some sweet vanilla cream on the nose. Milk chocolate and some dark, roasted chocolate aromas as well. Bold and enticing, with plenty of depth. Really wonderful.

TASTE: Whisky and oak up front for sure, with some sweet cream and milk chocolate as well. Finish is whisky barrel with boozy flavors, sweet vanilla cream, bitter pure chocolate and some roasted flavors. Lots of boozy barrel, caramel and vanilla cream sweetness, with some roasted and bitter dark chocolate from the base beer lingering on the palate. Really interesting and enjoyable.

PALATE: Medium-fuller body and medium carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down smooth with a bit of a burn at the swallow and finishes mouth-coating. Creamy and enough weight for sure. Solid.

OVERALL: This was really good, with lots of great aromas and flavors in exceptional balance, on top of a solid mouth feel to support it all. Well done. A little less booze in the flavor and a darker, thicker head would help the cause, but these are minor complaints. A complex, well balanced, bold and flavorful stout with lots going on. Really enjoyed this one. Thanks again cpferris. Recommended.

Appearance : Black pour with a thin, firm ring; reminds me of freshly poured coffee.

Smell : I can smell rye malt, hot whiskey, tobacco, tart cherries, plum, licorice, coffee, and booze. It's kind of a mess but it's not terrible. Kind of like sugary rubbing alcohol.

The flavor is pretty strong straight out of the gate, and is painful to hold in the mouth, but it starts pretty dirty with rolled tobacco and old dark cherries. Notes of plum, strong acidic and acetone-like whiskey, coffee, ash, and tart cherry on the finish.

The feel is acidic and ripping, and I actually feel numbness on my tongue and the roof of my mouth after just a couple sips. Burns all the way down. Shamefully overcarbonated. It's just not pleasant. You don't make a prickly imperial stout.

I mean, this is okay, but I'd be really disappointed if I had bought a ton of these. It's basically tobacco, bad whiskey, and spoiled cherries. I realize that can notate infection but this is rather fresh and I haven't heard of any infected batches of delusion. Egh.

Very creamy and smooth. Alcohol is hidden very well. If whisky is your thing then you will love this beer. Taste of light chocolate and vanilla with a slight bitterness. Good spiciness from the whisky barrel. Smells of whisky and vanilla.
