Black with a dense but short light brown foam remaining as a persistent creamy espresso film and raised collar.

Smell is peanut butter and chocolate wafer, wet wood and peppery bourbon.

Taste is wet and nutty yet spicy wood, creamy chocolate, vanilla and sassafras. The swallow has some bourbon heat and there is cola in the aftertaste.

Smooth, round and full with a creamy carbonation and a tingly, semi-dry finish.

11/2/16 bottle date; poured into a Crooked Stave snifter. Deep dark brown color with a thin layer of foam, most of which dissipates quickly. Nose is moderate rye barrel with wafts of peanut butter cup. Palate is Butterfinger bar, vanilla, chocolate, roast, oak char, and peanut flour. I have to confess that I had never heard of this beer (it came as an extra in a trade), and I'm frankly shocked at how much I like it. Definitely worth trying.

Appearance : Black pour with a thin, firm ring; reminds me of freshly poured coffee.

Smell : I can smell rye malt, hot whiskey, tobacco, tart cherries, plum, licorice, coffee, and booze. It's kind of a mess but it's not terrible. Kind of like sugary rubbing alcohol.

The flavor is pretty strong straight out of the gate, and is painful to hold in the mouth, but it starts pretty dirty with rolled tobacco and old dark cherries. Notes of plum, strong acidic and acetone-like whiskey, coffee, ash, and tart cherry on the finish.

The feel is acidic and ripping, and I actually feel numbness on my tongue and the roof of my mouth after just a couple sips. Burns all the way down. Shamefully overcarbonated. It's just not pleasant. You don't make a prickly imperial stout.

I mean, this is okay, but I'd be really disappointed if I had bought a ton of these. It's basically tobacco, bad whiskey, and spoiled cherries. I realize that can notate infection but this is rather fresh and I haven't heard of any infected batches of delusion. Egh.

Deep brown in color with about a quarter inch of head that settles to a solid ring and nice lacing.

Nose is whiskey sweetness, minor oak, booze but acetone like.

Taste is sweet whiskey, spice, malt, a bit of smoke, minor cocoa, and oak.

Mouthful is medium, creamy, and smooth. Carbonation is low. Finish is semi sweet.

Very impressive whiskey barrel stout that drinks real smooth especially with 3 years on it. The only drawback is the bit of acetone on the nose. The rest though is delicious - creamy, sweet booze that drinks real easy.

12oz bottle from LambicPentameter (thanks!). Bottled 11/3/16. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku.

Pours black with two and a half fingers of fluffy khaki head. The froth shrinks down, leaving some healthy retention and a good bit of lacing.

Aromas of rye whiskey, creamed coffee and cooked caramel. Straight forward and enjoyable.

Sweet, easy-going whiskey hits my palate first. That pleasant spirit essence is bolstered by milk sugars, dark chocolate, wet earthy oak, cooked caramel, heavily kilned malt, minor pepper spice and an occasional reminder of that double digit abv. The flavor profile is right on point for the style.

Smooth, creamy, medium full body with pillowy carbonation. Aftertaste of rye whiskey tinged tres leches cake with some roasty chocolate.

My first experience with Greenbush Brewing illustrates that they have some skills. For my tastes, Delusion is exactly what a barrel aged imperial cream stout should be.

I got this one recently in a trade. 2016 vintage (11/2/16) poured from a bottle into a tulip glass (2, actually). Appearance is the typical black, with some nice lacing. I didn't get much smell, but that was because it was really cold and didn't give it a chance to warm up first. The velvety mouthfeel blew me away with the first sip! It was not what I expected since most BA stouts can be a bit harsh or at least rough around the edges. Overall, the wife and I enjoyed this bottle a lot and I'm glad to have another in the 'cellar' for later. This is one that is worth seeking out.

Pours oil black with thick dark tan head that laces very well then dissapates as it warms. Smells of faint alcohol heat, vanilla, strong dark roasted chocolate.
Taste is same as nose but stronger hints of vanilla due from the barrel aging. Light smokiness followed by roasted malts and a mellow abv heat sting. Full bodied. Low carbonation.
Easily one my favorite off the radar barrel aged stouts.
