in what I believe started with magic hat and is becoming an ever more popular trend, this beer is made with beets. bright pink in color with a lovely inch of white head that unfortunately dies too quickly. its radiant but cloudy, tempting and interesting. it smells super earthy, just like a freshly sliced open raw beet. mineral and nutrition rich, behind some Belgian type saison yeast and a delicate wheat malt. the flavor is similar, but with a lot more sugar coming to the table than just the earthy soil qualities from the nose. the yeast is also a little more pungent than it smells, dank and almost musty, it fits the beet well. a very clever beer this one, medium bodied and rather well carbonated. I think its a step behind bull and bush turnip the beets as the best ive ever had with beets, but its an impressive brew, and one that I hope makes the regular lineup. top quality here.

The beer is actually a beet saison. The beer pours a decent white head that dissipates quickly. The beer is a clear and hazy red. The beer appears to only be partially filtered. The red is closer to a rose and beet red than a ruby red. The beer smells strongly of beet that mixes well with the earthy smells. The beer continues to have the traditional musky and slightly wheat smells that come from saisons. Additionally, there also appear to be slightly bitter hop notes as well . The beer taste is similar to the smell. The beer taste has slight bitter hop notes with earthy taste that includes beets. The beet is not as prominent in the taste as it was in the smell though. the mouthfeel is clean and medium bodied with biting carbonation. The beet and saison mix is a pretty interesting combination that seems to work very well. My only complaint is that the beet is lost in the flavor.
