probably the renegade brew i was least pumped about, not to say its a bad pale ale, just not as well executed as the others. pours a yellowy straw color with a small white head. little bit cloudy, but still letting plenty of light through. smells sweet and malty, with notes of toffee even. flavor is not overwhelmingly exciting, but fairly well balanced. more interesting malts than hops happening in this one, but a good bitter kick at the end to relax some of the sweetness going on. feel is okay, could be a bit more bubbly in my opinion, also it felt a bit heavy in the belly. id like to see this one brighten up a bit in those respects, but definitely still a pretty good glass of ale. there are no bad brews at renegade

Stopped by Renegade on the way home, finally. Picked up a growler of the new Pale Ale, Descendant. Poured from growler to pint glass. The beer pours a hazy golden amber orange color. A minimal 1/2 finger white head, some retention, little to no lacing. The aroma starts off quite pleasant with strong citrus hoppy character and a noticeable malty sweetness. However, that immediately is dominated by a distinct popcorn, butterscotch aroma: Diacetyl :( Bummer. The flavor follows suit with the citrus and malty sweet flavors found in the nose but again is completely dominated by the diacetyl off-flavors. Silky slick on the tongue. Too bad, with out the off-flavors I think this beer could be really good. Finishes with a lingering butterscotch flavor mixed with some cereal grainy flavor and a mild bitterness. Overall, bummer about the diacetyl. I would give it another shot, though in another batch.
