On tap at Beachwood BBQ – Long Beach, CA
05/02/2014 – Full Pint

Also recently had in bottle

A: Lightly burnished golden orange body. A splash of hop haze produces a nice glow in the glass when light struck. Has a finger width of bone white soapy suds on top that like to cling to the glass with every possible chance.

S: Ccccitra!!! Grapefruit, orange, pine, lemon-lime, and gooseberry on the nose. Super fruity and aromatic. Smells terribly fresh with some lightly clipped herbs on the trail end. Not much malt to be noted. Just all sugary sweet citrus.

T: Flavors bring a mass of citrus, mango, and orange with pink grapefruit. Some light tropical floras as well but not necessarily dank weed. Lots of mango here. Has a touch of green onion too with a distinctive gooseberry note. Light malt base of just some sugary resins and a wisp of caramel cream. Surprisingly mellow on the actual perceived bitterness. This one is about the balance. Alcohol is making an appearance but it’s fairly well incorporated. Very dry with a long lasting linger. Another great IPA from Beachwood. I found lots more gooseberry drinking this from the bottle. Both were great however.

M: Medium body leaning towards the lighter side of fullness. Even carb gives a nice lush feel in the mouth. Light bitterness with some sugary residues. Very dry in the finish with that long hoppy lasting linger.

D: Citraholic is a great IPA and its not even Beachwood’s best. Can’t really go wrong here with all the Citrus goodness. Nicely balanced and very refreshing. I think I may have enjoyed the bottle even more but perhaps because it was a bit more isolated. Anywho…a must try from them for sure.

Got rained out during my trip to Beachwood: closed on Mondays. Ok, a bottle from the local spot will have to do.

Smells like my baby mama when she comes home from Burke Williams - this thang is money. Taste is pretty solid, but kind of like said baby mama a few hours after coming home from the day spa - things are a bit toned down. That being said, this dang sucker still has plenty of citrus pep in its step.

Get on it my minions.

Can't believe I've never reviewed this! Now that it's in a new format, might as well.

Citralholic pours a nearly perfect deep gold with a foamy white frosting on top. It's crystal clear,as I can see my fingers through the liquid on the back side of the glass. Beautiful. Not to mention the lovely patchy lace all over.

Lemon, lime, and melon emerge as it's poured. A little cat piss comes through as it warms and with bigger inhalation.

The flavor starts where the smell left off. Lemon, lime, melon, and a light sugary cookie like sweetness. Zesty is the best word for me, at least

Crisp, clean, dry, and bitter. Not quite as bitter as I'd like, but very well constructed. It's very easy to return to almost immediately after each sip.

Citraholic is a great IPA. One that I could drink all day, every day and is much better than the vast majority of "West Coast" IPA's out there. It's clean and showcases Citra hops very well. Cheers!

22oz bottle served in a pint glass. Pours a golden amber color, little head but nice lacing. Smell is citrus and pine. Taste is citrus with some zest and pine. An excellent beer.

Perfectly balanced west coast IPA's like this only come from Russian River and Alpine (Not Green Flash). Consider these three brewers artists over brewers. Masters of their hop craft. Seek this beer out!

Poured from a 16oz can into my Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.

Nearly clear royal yellow body capped by an active fist of ivory merengue. Soapy lacing; excellent retention.

Intense, bright, nearly dank hop aromatics with tangelo, berry, and melon notes.

Pleasingly bitter palate entry, with a mix of citrus (lemon, kumquat), herbal (mint, wildflowers), and faint tropical flavors dominating at first. Citra takes center stage, but the other varieties are adding some complexity to the flavor profile. The hops give way to a rich but smooth/bright malt sweetness (nice use of honey malt rather than caramel malt), though the finish is zippy and dry.

Not-quite-medium-bodied with an almost creamy feel with moderate carbonation. ABV is well hidden.

Always pleased to see some West Coast breweries evolving our regional style independent
Drinks like a pale ale on steroids - intensely hoppy, but still quite drinkable.

Wonderful take on the SoCal regional IPA, independent of the haze craze.

this beer is phenomenal, it pours a beautiful light golden Amber with a finger of bone white head, the aroma is of lemon drops, tropical fruit, weed/grass and lemon zest.... The taste is so complex for an ipa...the flavors start out wit sweet candied lemon, lemon zest and a nice dank/grass flavor, as the beer warmed up there were flavors of mango, Mellon, red grape fruit with a zesty bitterness on the finish......I highly recommend this beer.....grade A+beer

Transparent golden brew, with good head production and retention.

Fruity, dank, glorious aroma. Grapefruit, pine, melon, pale malt, caramel malt (perhaps the honey malt?).

On the palate, it's peppery, piney, juicy, and dank. Mango, melon, and berries. For my preferences, this is a little young for a Citra brew (2 weeks old), but it tastes fantastic. Really reminiscent of some of the best Citra-hopped brews out there.

Crisp and lively, although a touch syrupy. Balanced and bitter - in this way, it hearkens back to classic West Coast IPAs (and DIPAs).

Really excellent beer, one I would be overjoyed to have on tap, and I'm glad to have tried. Going back and forth between 4.25 and 4.5 on Taste and Overall. There's just a slight skunky, earthy grassiness to the overall profile that detracts ever so slightly; that could just be personal preference on my part.

Really hazy golden color with off-white head. Aroma is quite dank, citrusy with herbal hop notes. Taste starts hoppy up-front, quite bitter with harsh hop notes. Herbal and dank hop profile with a red grapefruit flavor on the aftertaste. Medium to light bodied, medium to low carbonation. Overall it's a quite good IPA with harsh hops but I don't mind it.

Beachwood knows it's way with this style to be sure. clear golden ale with noticeable lacing, the aromas are mango, apricot, and a touch of dankness. fruit forward on the palate, the beer finishes clean and dry. minimal malt profile - crackery dry. hit the spot.
