Poured from a bottle, no date, after receiving in a trade...

Beautiful orange color with a frothy head and sticky lace. The aromas are absolutely stunning. Lovely citrus notes to include oranges, mangos, passion fruits. The taste echoes those sentiments with some resin and grass notes and nice pine backbone. The mouthfeel is medium body, solid carbonation with a nice biting finish.

Overall, this is one of the damn finest IPAs out there. Reminds a lot of Hill Farmstead offering in the aroma and mouthfeel. Lots of citrus with a piney finish which makes it incredibly balanced. I'm happy to have gotten a bottle of this. Wonderful!

at 7.1abv it taste like a double ipa

On tap at BEACHWOOD BBQ long beach

A: clean lightly golden champange color, white two finger of head filled with micro bubbles
A: straight papaya, lemon, green mango, kiwi,
T: similar to the aroma, sweet papaya, citrus lemon, green mango, kiwi, basically tropical fruits. perfect balance between malt vs hops bitterness
M: similar to most Double IPA medium to full body, crisp and sharp up front, nice and dry thru the palate, flavor town thru and thru

Amalgamater is an outstanding IPA, super clean and refreshing

Grabbed a 22 oz. bomber within a week of bottling, poured into Golden Road Brewing pint glass.

A: Slightly translucent, light copper appearance. Minimal head, but one that sticks around to create a lasting film as you drink.

S: Tropical and citrus fruits -- pineapple, mango, orange -- shine through immediately, along with a fresh hop aroma that reminds you how much freshness matters with IPAs.

T: Delivers on the initial aromas. Each sip is a delicious burst of citrus flavors and hop bitterness that stays consistent throughout drinking.

M: Crisp and light, the moderate carbonation helps remove any overly sugary tones it would otherwise have. Just an easily drinkable brew.

O: Again, this beer reminds you why freshness does matter. It's crisp, clean and aromatic -- a near-perfect representation of a West Coast IPA. If you can locate it on tap (bottles are gone by now), I'd highly recommend you do so.

Thanks to a random guy at the bar who shared this with some of us.

This IPA is great. The nose has a lot of Grapefruit and Pine with just a hint of cat pee, even though there's no Citra hops in it.

The taste follows the nose closely. Pine, grapefruit, and possibly some subtle berry flavors. The body is just thick enough to back up the hops, but is still fairly light.

Overall this is my new favorite IPA that Ill never have again, as supply is small . That sucks. Its a really well done west coast IPA. Worth trading for and delicious.

This one nails everything in balance. Everything fits perfectly in it's place. A near flawless west coast IPA. I can no flaws with it...actually. The closest thing to Pliny the Elder you're going to get from SoCal.

Juicy mangos, tangerine and some pineapple equalled by a nice Tahoe pine forest and some resin. Hops showcased masterfully at the forefront with just enough malt to let those hops shine, while still providing a near perfect body and mouthfeel. This beer is super clean and dry on the finsh. This is what west coast IPAs are all about, and this one has everything I look for in a IPA. It's lacking nothing. For my preference, IPAs don't get much better than this. Probably the best single IPA I've ever had. Highly recommended.

Beachwood at its very best! Their Single Ipa series is as good as any. This is perfectly dry with a touch of malt and a beautiful hop profile. Great Beer #donthazemebro

This beer is by far one the best I have had out of Beachwood Brewing. It is also on my top 10 list of coolness. This beer is a thick IPA with robust flavor. It is ROBUST. It lays it on thick.

There is a lot of shit going on here- hops, malt, fruit, citrus, kitchen sink, spices... that it is hard to express how it tastes in words other than my wife and I loved it.

22oz bottle purchased at Holiday Wine Cellar - Escondido, CA
Served in my FW snifter glass

A: Pours a darker golden amber color with orangey tones and some soft hop haze. Bubbly with a lively fizz producing a thin layer of short-lived paper white foam on top. Lower marks in the retention and stick department for an IPA but that is a minor setback all things considered.

S: Super pungent and tropical hop aromas with some dank green herbs intertwined. Gooseberry with mango spice, pineapple, guava, grapefruit, and some white wine grape. No trace of malt here only a touch of candied citrus fruits. And the aroma doesn’t quit long after the pour. One of the best smelling hoppy beers I have come across in some time now. So so juicy and dank.

T: Taste is the pure dank sauce. Wow! So much dankleberry going on. Grapefruit spice, mango, papaya, citrus, gooseberry, and pine with an upper mod amount of peppery bitterness on the palate. Malt is just a dry crackery after thought and almost doesn’t even hold up all them potent hop flavors. So clean and crisp with some really well masked alcohol. Resinous and reiterating with the hops. This one is all about the tropics and mary jane and I am loving it. Easily moving to my top IPA.

M: Super light and frothy with an upper level of constricting bitterness and a bone dry finish. Somewhat resinous linger action afterwards.

D: Amalgamator is some true dank sauce. For those who disdain this term. Drink an Amalgamator and see for yourself. This one is touching all my feels. Tropical and weedy with a super light and dry crisp body.

Highly highly recommended.

Bottled on 9/8, bought on 9/9, enjoyed on 9/10. The exceptional freshness definitely contributed to it, but this was one of the best IPAs I've had in my life and the best use of Mosaic hops in any beer that I can remember. It would probably be too much to ask to have it available in affordable sixers...

On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Pellucid gold in color with a finger of white froth. The aroma is bright and aromatic. Guava, passion fruit, orange, grapefruit, pine resin. No malt. Flavor is moderately bitter, dry, and clean with lots of hop flavor. Tropical notes remind me of passion fruit and mango. Orange pith blends with juicy flesh, grapefruit, and a little pine. Clean, dry, hoppy finish. Highly recommended.

The Beers of California

Freshness Date: None

A: Golden orange with a moderate amount of hazy yellow topped off with an off white head of sticky foam. The foam lasts ultimately leaving behind a blanket of lace on the glass and several islands of bubbles on top of the brew.

S: The tropicality comes through first: passion fruit, mango and pineapple. There is also a good amount of citrus and hints of apricot. Some dank resinous character is also there adding to the bready, honey malt foundation.

T: The hops lean toward mango, passion fruit, and pineapple tropical juiciness along with grapefruit peel and moments of apricot. There is also dank and resin which highlight the honey bread malt backbone which does its best to hold this brew together. Mild alcohol warmth along with earthy hop bitterness comes though in the finish.

M: Medium feel and crisp with a resinous linger and good supporting carbonation.

O: Beachwood BBQ is a Brewpub gem. So good I needed to take this brew home. I love the complex, juicy hop characteristics with strong tropical tones. Just the way I like my IPA's. Looking forward to filling this growler again.

Love me some West Coast IPA's!

My first time drinking Beachwood and it did not disappoint!

Poured a clear golden amber color with a nice white head
Smelled of citrus, tropical fruit notes and hops
Tasted amazing! Grapefruit, citrus, a little bit of tropical fruit notes and orange goodness
Clean, medium bodied and just the right amount of carbonation!

Highly recommend this great IPA!

- 22oz. bomber (bottled ) poured into Golden Road tumbler on 11-Sep-15

This is my 3rd experience with this beer and it's still my favorite IPA from Beachwood. It really pushes the hoppy bitterness to the level where it does a tight-rope balance between hop goodness and hop overload, at least for me. The mouthfeel is light and refreshing for the abv level that its at. One of the best west coast style IPA's around.

Poured 22oz bomber into New Belgium globe

A-It pours a nice golden color with a white head.

S-The aroma is sweet peaches, grape and mango hops. A little grapefruit blast as well.

T-The flavor is full with grapefruit, papaya and citrus. Massive fresh hop character. Very little caramel malt and a big citrus and spice finish.

M-Mouthfeel has a medium body and carbonation

O-Overall a great west coast IPA! Need more!

Poured a clear golden orange with an inch off white head. Plenty of lacing sticks to the glass. The smells is amazing. It consists of a combination of dank resin, citrus fruits, and a touch of passion fruit. The taste is very similar. Passion fruit, tropical fruits is followed by a dank resinous flavor and ending with a citrus bitterness. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy (somewhat buttery) with little (but some) carbonation. Overall, a great IPA and deserves do be up there with the best west coast IPAs!

This is one of the most florally aromatic IPA's that I have tasted. The first nose on this beer served in a glass is almost hibiscus meets grapefruit. The 22oz. bottles I had were bottled on 2/22/14 and the freshness definitely contributed to the fruity lead into a very subtle hop drag, through a smooth finish. This beer on a nitro tap would be the bomb. I hope to visit Beachwood soon! Drink this one as cold as you can get it!

Appearance: Pours a hazy goldenrod with a decent head that leaves some splashy lace behind

Smell: Tropical fruit tones, with passion fruit, pineapple, papaya and pith (the four Ps)

Taste: Just a touch of the biscuit and then the hops take over, bringing a wallop of the tropical fruit flavors detected in the aroma and a very pithy bitterness that builds into the middle; there might even be a touch of custard apple, after the swallow, with the floral and bitter tones intermingling into the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: This is a top notch IPA that makes great use of the Mosaic hop

Thanks, lincolnbeard, for the opportunity

I can always count of Beachwood to make a good IPA. Here's one more. On-tap at Beachwood BBQ, on to the beer:

Lighter orange colored brew that shines in a clean body, all while creamy lacing rings around the glass. The aroma is fantastic, and full of strong notes. Cantaloupe, orange, mango, all hitting the nose and being very vibrant as well. It's a very smooth beer, and the skill which Beachwood possess with hops is shown again in Amalgamator. Can I get another round of COGs (cantaloupe, orange, grapefruit) please?! It's not bitter, medium bodied, delicious, and very smooth.

Beachwood's best IPA? That's a tough call, because many of the one's I've had have been fantastic. This is just another one.

Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: Beer Nerd tulip
From: Bine & Vine Bottle Shop in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $9.59
Purchased: Jan. 13, 2016
Consumed: Jan. 13, 2016
Misc.: Born on Jan. 11, 2016 (are you kidding me?)

Saw two things that piqued my interest and eventually had me purchase it. 1) Beachwood Brewing and 2) Limit 1 per customer. Bottle is calling for Amarillo, Warrior, Columbus, Mosaic, passion fruit, blueberry, dank resin and citrus. Super psyched about this one.

Poured a honey, pale, clear color with 4-to-5 fingers of off-white, fluffy head. Tons of bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass, looking like a snow globe. Very good amount of foamy, layered lacing on the sides of the glass. Excellent foamy retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Hops dominated the smell, getting Mosaic, resin, Amarillo and Citra. Also got huge tropical whiffs - mixed berry, passion fruit and bitter mango rind - as well as some pine and Warrior (I think) hops. (Smell - 4.25)

Tasted a tad better than the nose. Not entirely sure, but I think bitter Warrior hops was leading the way. Also Amarillo hops, Mosaic hops, Citra hops, tropical hops, bitter mango rind, faint Nugget hops, dank resin hops, mixed berry, passion fruit and maybe some floral hops. (Taste - 4.50)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Bitter, abrupt finish. (Feel - 4.25)

This beer basically seems like a double IPA, but it is somehow just an IPA. I may be overrating this just a bit, but very good and I can’t wait to have it again. (Overall - 4.50)

On-tap at Beachwood I,

A: Pours a golden amber with a soft white head, some thick lace as the pint is drunk.

S: All about the tropicality, but has a green streak running through it. Pungent, West Coast style.

T: Mango, passion fruit and grapefruit dominate the flavour which is very light on the malt. Rich and flavourful, another tasty IPA from these guys.

M: Medium-bodied, crisp, dry, resiny and dank.

O: A stellar IPA, and well worth a try if you're a fan of this style. Right up there with Melrose.

Very nice West coast IPA! Great color, great lacing, great aroma and Hop punch!!! Taste is mega bitter, but balanced at the same time. Multiple flavors touch your buds. Would drink this all the time if I had the chance.
