poured this into a ipa glass and it poured an amber color with a 2 inch white head and very nice lacing. the smell is of citrus and pine and it has a bitter finish. the feel is crisp and bittersweet and a bitter finish. overall this is a delicious and bitter ipa that is has a well balance bitterness with the citrus/pine flavor. simply delicious.

Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: Beer Nerd tulip
From: Bine & Vine Bottle Shop in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $9.59
Purchased: Jan. 13, 2016
Consumed: Jan. 13, 2016
Misc.: Born on Jan. 11, 2016 (are you kidding me?)

Saw two things that piqued my interest and eventually had me purchase it. 1) Beachwood Brewing and 2) Limit 1 per customer. Bottle is calling for Amarillo, Warrior, Columbus, Mosaic, passion fruit, blueberry, dank resin and citrus. Super psyched about this one.

Poured a honey, pale, clear color with 4-to-5 fingers of off-white, fluffy head. Tons of bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass, looking like a snow globe. Very good amount of foamy, layered lacing on the sides of the glass. Excellent foamy retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Hops dominated the smell, getting Mosaic, resin, Amarillo and Citra. Also got huge tropical whiffs - mixed berry, passion fruit and bitter mango rind - as well as some pine and Warrior (I think) hops. (Smell - 4.25)

Tasted a tad better than the nose. Not entirely sure, but I think bitter Warrior hops was leading the way. Also Amarillo hops, Mosaic hops, Citra hops, tropical hops, bitter mango rind, faint Nugget hops, dank resin hops, mixed berry, passion fruit and maybe some floral hops. (Taste - 4.50)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Bitter, abrupt finish. (Feel - 4.25)

This beer basically seems like a double IPA, but it is somehow just an IPA. I may be overrating this just a bit, but very good and I can’t wait to have it again. (Overall - 4.50)

Westcoast IPA all the way. Too bitter for my east coast palate, but better than most others I've had.

On tap at BEACHWOOD BBQ long beach

A: clean lightly golden champange color, white two finger of head filled with micro bubbles
A: straight papaya, lemon, green mango, kiwi,
T: similar to the aroma, sweet papaya, citrus lemon, green mango, kiwi, basically tropical fruits. perfect balance between malt vs hops bitterness
M: similar to most Double IPA medium to full body, crisp and sharp up front, nice and dry thru the palate, flavor town thru and thru

Amalgamater is an outstanding IPA, super clean and refreshing

Clear orange with white thick head and lacing that sticks around and not planning on going any where. Very beautiful see through orange. The smell of Citra is amazing fallowing a hoppy taste that feels the mouth with tropical fruit. Love it

From 09/18/15 notes. 22 oz. bottle poured into a tulip, thanks Dane!

Pours a somewhat clear bright orange color with one finger of white head and moderate to high carbonation evident. Pine hops, resin, grapefruit, citrus hops, lemon, very good nose. Taste is very bitter. Medium body and moderate carbonation, bitter.

Overall a great nose but the taste is a bit too bitter which keeps the taste from being great. Very good though, worth checking out for sure.

I can always count of Beachwood to make a good IPA. Here's one more. On-tap at Beachwood BBQ, on to the beer:

Lighter orange colored brew that shines in a clean body, all while creamy lacing rings around the glass. The aroma is fantastic, and full of strong notes. Cantaloupe, orange, mango, all hitting the nose and being very vibrant as well. It's a very smooth beer, and the skill which Beachwood possess with hops is shown again in Amalgamator. Can I get another round of COGs (cantaloupe, orange, grapefruit) please?! It's not bitter, medium bodied, delicious, and very smooth.

Beachwood's best IPA? That's a tough call, because many of the one's I've had have been fantastic. This is just another one.

The last bottle of a batch that showed up at Bine & Vine in San Diego. Lucious mango aroma. Label says this is brewed with Amarillo, Warrior, and Columbus as well as the Mosaic hops. Sharp on the tongue. Clear golden yellow with a fine cream of foam in the tall goblet.

Fruity but on the dry side. All this hop flavoring would make a good DIPA version. It's a little dry and austere for all the hops, but the aromatics are fabulous. Quite bitter. Every sip renews the bold fruity flavors, but mostly a gust of smells. Melon and piine with a toasty malt taste. Hop fanatics will want to try this one for sure. It's hard to drink much of it, but the hops rule.
