This pours a dark brown black. There's a slight hazelnut aroma Metallic finish thin bodied doesn't deliver. Somewhat of a disappointment that a larger malt backing could easily remedy.

Iam guessing this is the "Shallow Grave" Chocolate Hazelnut Porter even though the label does not say so.Pours nearly jet black except for some ruddy brown when held to the light,a creamy beige head atop.Dark chocolate, rum, and roasted hazelnuts in the nose with the alcohol winning out.Buttery and chocolaty on the palate with a slick mouthfeel, not overly roasted.

Pours opaque, dark brown in color with a one inch rocky top. Taste is baker's and milk chocolate and nutella. Medium bodied, sweet with low carbonation. Wish there was more hazelnut but makes for a nice dessert beer.

Bomber. Clear dark mahogany pour with a tall tan head with decent retention. Notes of roasted malts, smoke, dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, some oxidation and roasted hazelnuts. Medium body with a high carbonation and a roasty bitter-sweet finish.

22 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter. Bottled 10 Nov. 2014.

A: Pours near black with a short light brown head. Poor head retention soon left only a ring but there was some spotty lacing.

S: Rich chocolate initially followed by a stronger nutty hazelnut note with a hint of peanuts. Black bread in the background. Exceptionally pleasant mix of well balanced aromatics.

Taste: the dark and sweet chocolate is more evident here compared to the roasted nut flavors. The hazelnut does linger on in the aftertaste. Lightly and appropriately sweet. Dark roasted grains with a faint smokiness become more apparent as the ale warms.

Feel: Medium bodied; very smooth; medium carbonation.

O: A solid porter with restrained and well balanced contributions from chocolate and hazelnut. The blend overall slightly favors the hazelnuts, but even together these are scream FLAVORED beer.

On Tap @ Brewery in a 4 oz tasting glass.

A - Dark, dark brown with a tan/mocha 1/4 inch head. Lacing is present but not very thick or heavy.

S - Heavy Roasted Malt, chocolate, dark caramel, and toasted hazelnuts.

T - Coffee, chocolate and hazelnuts are the forward trio here, followed by some toasted malts.

M - Medium body with low carbonation. A creamy , nutty finish.

O - While I really enjoyed Heretic's Porter, this one, while good, didn't "wow" me the way the others did. Don't misunderstand, it is good beer but I am not sure if I would pick some up to enjoy very often.

Having said that this was a last minute taste after spending some time at my most recent visit to the brewery ... palate fatigue perhaps?

Appearance - Pours near black with cola brown edging where light can penetrate. The head puffs up to a rocky 3 fingers in width and shows great retention before settling to a thin, broken layer of surface suds. Lacing is small and spotty with fair stick.

Smell - The aroma is amazing! Notes of roasted peanut and hazelnut with milk chocolate and traces of caramel.

Taste - Follows the nose, though less cohesive. Fair notes of roasted peanut and hazelnut, while a lightly supportive milk chocolate character rides beneath. Touches of earth. Kinda light; takes a big gulp to get the full flavor, which is amazing when done.

Mouthfeel - Closer to light than medium in body with soft carbonation. A little too soft; could use just a hair more carbonation. Really smooth, though.

Overall - It's delicious, but doesn't quite have the potency in flavor to reach that World Class status. When gulped it felt like I was drinking one of the best porters I've ever had, but when drank within normal "sipping ranges" (whatever that means) it was good to decent. So... I don't know. This one's got me a tad perplexed. Definitely one to try again.

Pours a finger and half of tan head on a black body.
The aroma has lots of hazelnut and chocolate right up front.
The taste starts with mild chocolate bitterness, then roasted malt sweet and carries through to a tapered sweet ending.
The texture is smooth with low carbonation.
Excellent balance for a decadent beer.
