Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Hazy New England-style IPA. This is all about bringing the juice back to American beer. It isn’t about big football commercials and fancy packaging. It is about the liquid in the can. We spent our money (which is your money if you think about it) on an insane amount of the best hops available, so the can ain’t fancy, but the beer certainly is. Hazy, luscious, and full of juicy hops. This beer is brewed with no bittering hop addition, just whirlpool and insane amounts of dry-hopping. That results in a gentle bittering and a huge, juicy hop profile. Vote Juicy!

Had on tap. Pours clear gold in color with minimal head. Taste is orange and herbal hops. Medium bodied and carbonation slightly. Makes for a slightly above average hoppy beer.

Canned 12/15/17; drank 1/31/18 @ the Yarchives.

Cloudy orange/yellow appearance.

A violent pour yielded a big bright white head; strong, frothy lace.

Lemon, dry wheat, mild cane sugar & faint pine notes in the nose.

Sticky, medium mouthfeel.

Lemon & cane sugar flavors up front; dry pine notes on the finish.

Cloying yet too dry; the NE IPA notes are in there but they clash, rather than coalesce. I've had my first and last.

Ultra milky pale orange body, too cloudy to make a visual confirmation on any carbonation. It's uniform, not chunky; I guess I can get onboard. Even a soft-ish pour produces a voluminous frothy, velvety head that fades to nothing and leaves scattered lace. The nose contains fleshy, mild fruit; cantaloupe, tangerine without any harsh acidity or bitterness, pear. The taste offers just fraction of this already mild flavor, plus the addition of wheat and some disruptive moderately bitter pine resins on the finish. The body is medium-full, nearly creamy, with soft carbonation.
At the end of the day, this was a pretty mild brew. The nose was appropriately strong, but the flavor dropped off quickly. Beyond that, the actual flavor profiles were kinda weak, too, and the bitterness that is otherwise welcome in a hoppy beer just ruined the delicate palate. Not bad by any means, just wish it had more oomph.

Picked this up when I was in Vacaville for Coach Jensen's Hall of Fame induction ceremony, what an awesome guy and coach! Anyways, pours a golden hazy color, not super murk city, but slight haze, small 1/4" white head. Aroma was slightly juicy, seemed to have Simcoe as well as some Citra.

Taste is good, although the juicy name will make you think its gonna drop a ton of Mosaic and whatnot, but its pretty light in the juiciness, the ibu department seems in the 40s. The body does seem to use some flaked oats as it is only slightly bitter while dropping some citrus hop flavors. One thing I noticed was that these cans (bought a 6 pack for $11) were actually better when they were 4 weeks old versus when they were 2 weeks old. Kind of had to settle in I guess.

Overall these are decent enough for the price, but they aren't going to make anyone forget about Moonraker or Revision anytime soon.

Canned 04/30/18

Appearance - Pours hazy and straw yellow in color with an off-white, half-finger width head. Fair retention results in a thin, broken layer of suds with a thin ring of suds around the edge of the glass. Not much for lacing.

Smell - Fair tropical aroma, hitting on citrus, mango and pineapple notes. Distant pine.

Taste - Follows the nose. It's tropical and fruity for sure, but not especially juicy. Orange, mango, some pineapple. Finishes much the same.

Mouthfeel - Medium in boy with fair, tingly carbonation. Slick, easy drinker with a slightly dry finish.

Overall - Good beer, but does little to deliver on the promise of being a juicy, hazy IPA. Heretic's made some killer brews; this one isn't one of them.

Good beer but with the new style and some beers really standing out this is just mediocre to me. Good beer but doesn’t stack up with some of the better examples. Would be a stretch even calling this “hazy”. More like a heavily dry hopped American ipa in my opinion.

Canned 10/25/17

Pours a gigantic 2+ finger foamy fluffy head that fades semi slowly with tons of lacing, a murky fairly hazy honey pear tan color

Nose is a bit light, some citrus, tropical fruits, little pineapple, orange juice notes, pretty faint

Taste big tropical fruits, pineapple, orange juice and mango puree, guava, papaya, quite juicy, some creamy wheat and malt base, I almost think there is lactose in this, some pear and stone fruits as well, very light bitterness.

Mouth is med bod, fairly creamy almost lactose like creamy, tons of fluffy carb

Overall, I wasn't feeling this one, first the aroma was very light, second it feels like they forced the entire idea of the NEIPA creamy juicy feel with adding lactose or something, and the hop isomers and juicy fruits weren't really suspended in the haze, but there is some promise in there.

The cloudy straw yellow beer pours out into a Duvel glass with a 1 1/2” ivory head that slowly but visibly recedes to a thin cap of foam on the surface while leaving behind a ring lots of patches and long stringy legs of lacing on the sides of the glass.

The aromas are not very strong but include some citrus and tropical fruits. There’s some mango, a bit of pineapple, some tangerine and a small hint of malt.

The flavors are much bigger and more assertive than anticipated from the nose but include the citrus, tropical fruits, the mango, pineapple and tangerine. The controlled malt sweetness is actually not very sweet and there’s only a little bit of bitterness showing background.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied and quite smooth with the very light but persistent carbonation. The finish begins as the mild sweetness and fruit flavors begin to fade allowing a light bit of bitterness to appear during the dry ending.

Overall I’ve enjoyed this beer and would be fine with having another. It touches all the bases (hazy, lots of fruit in the aromas and flavors, a niche smooth mouthfeel, and not much bitterness) for the newly emerged style and is worth trying.
