BOD 11/21/14. Pours a clear deep dark ruby. World class head volume, lacing and retention. A truly beautiful beer.

Rich complex nose of malt and hops. A somewhat dank, but also light citrus, hop aroma over a rich malt base of biscuit and caramel. Hints of pine and chocolate are also present.

Medium body with a very smooth texture that has creamy aspects. Slightly above normal carbonation with a bit of effervescence in the middle and a reasonably strong finish.

The outstanding flavor profile is intense, complex and very well balanced. It begins with a complex mix of flavors. Grainy biscuit and caramel lead, but with a laid back light sweetness. Citric, pine and grapefruit rind hop flavor follows. A mild bitterness arrives in the middle which is a complex of dank, pine and rind with a citric note. As the finish approaches, bitter dark chocolate notes are present. The finish is slightly dry with a lingering dank bitterness.

L: Brilliant deep amber brown with a 1” cream to tan colored foam collar that hugs the side of the glass.
S: Malty nose with traces of caramel and chocolate.
T: Strats with rich malts and light caramel supported by traces of chocolate and light espresso finishing with a citrus rind coffee-like bitterness on the end.
F: Creamy smooth with medium carbonation and medium to medium full body.
O: A full flavored red ale with an assertive hop finish.

Red Amber in color with beige head, reduces to thin layer and lasts throughout glass. Smell is weak, hops and citrus peel. Very malty then hops kick in with a semi dry finish with lingering citrus hops aroma. Bitterness is low but very obvious, increases as temp rises. Lacing throughout glass. Good beer for IPA lovers looking for something different throughout the night.

To quote the Kool Aid guy from the 80's..."Oh Yeah". <Smash through styrofoam brick wall> It looks good - nice colour, a bit of foamy head, blah blah blah. This beer starts to kick it up when you get a whiff - pine, hops, and a hint of citrus. The flavour and mouthfeel are excellent - malt, plus everything the aroma hinted would happen. I love this style of hoppy red ale - full credit to Heretic for creating a delicious beer!

This pours a warm amber color. Piney dank aromas abound.
It’s sticky sweet with a hint of dank malts.

I guess I don’t have much more to add to this review right now.

(Draft, Handles, Pleasanton CA). Dark amber/red color. Thick foamy head, hoppy aroma, mellow and neutral taste, decent but nothing grabs you.

22oz bottle. Who is this an 'evil twin' to, one might wonder?

This beer pours a clear, dark red-brick amber colour, with three fat fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly tan head, which leaves some spooky, howling ghost-esque cobwebbed lace around the glass as it slowly ebbs away.

It smells of mildly dank pine resin, bitter white grapefruit and underripe orange pith, grainy caramel malt, muddled dark orchard fruit, brown sugar, ethereal wet ash, and further leafy, earthy hops. The taste is semi-sweet bready, lightly roasted caramel malt, forest floor pine acridity, more mixed citrus bitterness, a touch of damp stone path, and plain leafy, earthy hops coming 'round the back.

The bubbles are mostly kept under lock and check, barely registering on the ol' frothometer, the body a solid medium weight, and verging on heavy, with an attendant smoothness, one that has a few wrinkles to iron out. It finishes off-dry, and not as sweet as I was expecting, the hops and so far unremarked-upon alcohol doing well to create a semblance of balance.

A properly hoppy, and elevated American red ale, is all I can really relate about Evil Twin, in summary. No off-flavours (a common affliction for the style, sadly), as the near 7 points of booze slowly seep into my pleasure centers, at just the right time, winter making its seasonally unwelcome return today.
