I.P.A. was developed in England around 1800; the extra strength in alcohol and hops helped preserve the beer on its long export journeys to India and beyond. The style has developed a following worldwide. Ours begins with smooth, malty creaminess and a big burst of dry-hop flavor and aroma from a variety of American hops. It finishes with a lingering yet pleasant bitterness. Is it Overboard? You decide.

Post COVID I am finding that Big Island has made it's way down from Waimea to quite a few more locales that pre COVID... this is a good thing. With Big Island and Maui there is no reason why anyone should be drinking Kona while out and about in the Islands.
Overboard is nothing special, but it is a proper west coast IPA (albeit malty) that you can rely on whenever you see it fresh on tap.

Pours clear, amber in color with one quarter inch head. Taste is pine, nectarines, and grapefruit. Medium body, moderate carbonation, bitter. Makes for an average west coast ipa.

On tap. White head. Lots of lace. Clear golden color.
Another great ipa from these guys. Very west coast forward. Earthy, piney, and a bit of dank. Faint citrus fruit, but mainly all hops and bitterness. Easy drinking and flavorful. Big fan of their ipas.

Poured from a bomber into a shaker pint
Look: Crystal clear dark gold with a thick white head
Smell: Piney and bitter hops with a clean bready malt
Taste: Bitter and piney hops on the attack mellows to a floral noble hop and wheat bread body that dries out with a pine hop finish.
Feel: Clean and easy drinking. Mild bitterness and sweetness. No alcohol. Dry finish.
Overall: Just an easy drinking IPA. Reminds me of 60 minute a lot. Won’t disappoint.

A: The beer is hazy yellowish amber in color. It poured with a short white head that died down and left a small patch of bubbles on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of caramel malts are present in the nose along with hints of citrusy hops.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of caramel malts along with notes of citrusy hops, the latter of which contribute a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and somewhat crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer tastes like an IPA of the early 2000s as it is more maltier than it is hoppy.
Serving type: bottle

Appearance: Pours a fairly clear copper color with a one finger head; decent retention and a few splashes of lace
Smell; Big Munich malt aromas with caramel and a resinous, smoky aspect; piney, as well
Taste: Resinous Munich malt tones forward with a developing smoke flavor; piney bitterness arrives in the middle but moderates, after the swallow; the finish has an earthy character but the sweetness lingers
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: I haven't tasted an IPA like this in quite some time; it tastes like the old East Coast style
Thanks, elikan, for the opportunity

September 13th, 2015 - I picked up this bottle at a local bottle shop to enjoy in the hotel room after a long day of forgetting my sunscreen and slowly cooking in the Hawaiian sun. The color is sort of a richer straw color, but there's little to no head. On the nose I get a slight orange smell and marmalade, along with a smell familiar from Honeycomb cereal. The flavor is that of a milder IPA, and works up front with a little more tropical fruit, especially guava. The mouthfeel and palate is good too, with an easy going flavor. So, a simple combination of hops and fruit, but balanced nicely.
