Black, some foam.

Nothing smell-wise.

Bad bottle? Not sweet, it's muddled and bitter like molasses. Not pulling the bourbon from this either.

IDK, seems right.

8800th review! 22 ounce bottle into snifter, 2016 vintage. Pours dense pitch black color with a small dense tan head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, cream, marshmallow, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, fudge, brownie batter, and dark bread; with lighter notes of coconut, molasses, licorice, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, smoke, char, leather, tobacco, herbal, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Minimal booze in the aromas as it warms. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/black/roast/bready malts, vanilla, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with big strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, cream, marshmallow, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, fudge, brownie batter, and dark bread; with lighter notes of coconut, molasses, licorice, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, smoke, char, leather, tobacco, herbal, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Very mild herbal, roast, char bitterness; and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, cream, marshmallow, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, fudge, brownie batter, dark bread, coconut, molasses, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, char, leather, tobacco, herbal, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts, vanilla, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a solid roast/hop bitter/sweet, and bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with no cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Slightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness. Light-medium carbonation and super full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready, and slightly slick/sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is amazing. Mild increasing warmth of 13.5%, with no lingering barrel booze after the finish. Overall this is an amazing barrel aged flavored imperial stout! All around amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts, vanilla, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV, with the mildly bitter/tannic/drying finish; amazingly soft/silky feel for the ABV. Insanely rich malt/vanilla complexity, with perfectly balanced barrel presence/integration; mild earthy hops and fruity yeast notes. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and top tier quality style example as expected.

Stark black with a dark mocha blanket that quickly fizzles out to a thin yellow-tan chain.

Smell is a little more muted than the non-flavored Rye variant, but does bring brownie batter and frozen yogurt with a touch of black pepper and spiced rum soaked vanilla bean.

Taste exhibits vanilla but not in the way you'd expect, again coming forward as rum-soaked bean to an almost medicinal degree, as very warming, almost numbing and spicy bourbon and faint charred oak come in shortly after. The roasty nuttiness and round, deep molasses of the base is not as prominent and does not seem to intermingle well with the treatment here, as a bit of banana skin emerges. It's kind of harsh actually.

The feel is still pretty great, thick, round, smooth and full with a crisp almost crunchy carbonation before a slightly sticky, cardboard dry finish. There's quite a bit more heat than the plain rye variant, though.

I had a hard time drinking my glass of this. Not very good compared to a lot of the other ba vanilla stouts out there. Little vanilla. Roasted feel. Barrel flavors not on point.

This beer poured a dark black color into my Teku glass with a dark tan head that last only seconds.
The nose of this beer is exciting with the sweet smell of bourbon and the great vanilla aroma on top of that.
The taste is where this beer to me explodes with a rich flavor from the malts, some chocolate and tobacco there as well. with the great vanilla flavor there with the sweet bourbon in the finish.
The mouth feel is smooth nice and thick the way a great stout should be which allows it to so smoothly go down as you drink it.
This is a great beer which I have been so graciously allowed to enjoy. If you have the chance you should try it. If I have the chance again I surely will.

Yellow wax capped 22oz bottle from LambicPentameter (many thanks for this!). 2016 vintage, I believe released early August. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku.

Pours midnight black with a finger and a half of mocha head. The dense froth settles slowly, leaving some wisps on the surface and a narrow collar that imparts only a few scattered specks of lace.

Smooth, sweet aromas of vanilla ice cream, bourbon, milk chocolate, caramel and wet oak. Such a decadent and welcoming smell that I return often for additional whiffs between sips.

Rich, decadent flavors of semi charred vanilla beans, bourbon, chocolate, seared caramel, a vague piney bitterness, leather and a healthy punch of booze. A delightful blend for sure, with plenty of emphasis given to the vanilla.

Smooth, pillowy, creamy full feel with moderately light carbonation. The delicious finish continues that great mixture of vanilla, bourbon, chocolate and caramel.

Excellent work by Witches Hat. This vanilla variant of Night Fury is outstanding. I love the pronounced vanilla perched on a great balance of imperial stout and rich barrel character. Very happy to know someone that was willing to hook me up with this.

Had this on St. Patrick's Day 2016 on draft and was excellent! I've had this before summer 2015 and thought was pretty good, but like this batch better, more vanilla flavor and less bitter maybe different bourbon barrels this time during aging process? Either way recommend trying might be able to trade for bottles that were also release on St. Patrick's day.

Poured nicely, thin similar to Dragontrax. The nose is better then D-Trax with some vanilla and charred oak - the vanilla is mild. The taste is similar. A nice beer with mild vanilla and good heat. If you like vanilla bombs like Vanilla Rye and Fundamental O, you'll be let down. This is still a quality brew.

Yellow wax. 22oz capped bomber into Night Shift stemware. Shared with schen9303.

Pours pitch black and viscous with the smallest dark mocha head that dissipates quickly. Thick, oily legs cling to the glass and coat a spotty, sticky lace that sits around. Pretty good.

Nose is booze, fudge, chocolate, mocha and some dark fruit and the slightest touch of sweet soy sauce. Appetizing but rather mellow. Booze flitters in the background but doesn't assault the nose.

Opens chocolate, molasses and sweet vanilla bean and booze. Some fudge and cocoa powder in the middle complemented by a slight touch of mocha bitterness. Raisin, burnt dark fruit and some anise and sweet soy sauce towards the middle and end. Finishes boozy with some ethanol. Still a bit hot. Sticky sweet aftertaste. Tasty!

Medium to full bodied with low carbonation. Thick and oily in the mouth and goes down warm, boozy and sticky. Messy finish with a lingering, filmy aftertaste. Really good. Just the right body and carbonation.

This one is a touch thin for the flavor and booziness that it carries. That being said, the feel is still spot on and the complexity is just waiting to peak through the alcohol. Worth sitting on for another couple of months but this is certainly already worth a try as is.

Served in a minisnifter glass. Dark black body, nice one finger offwhite head, fair bit of retention, no lacing, drops eventually into nothingness. Smells of mild vanilla bean, whiskey, oak, chocolate, espresso, caramel. On the sweeter side, no char. The vanilla is restrained, but certainly present. Flavour is similar; mild vanilla bean, dark chocolate, bit of roast, some milk chocolate, fair amount of whiskey and oak. The vanilla is more of a complementary player to the base barrel-aged stout. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, smooth, a bit silky, with a mild raw vanilla bite on the backend. Overall, a tasty imperial stout that could use a little more vanilla, but is otherwise a tasty beverage.

For an Imperial Stout, this is among the best available in Michigan. Initial impressions, the melding of oak barrel and vanilla are prevalent. As the beer warms, the hops become more noticeable. Seek this out if you can. It's a gem.

I had the pleasure of trying this beer at the Michigan Brewers Guild Festival this summer. This was one of my favorite beers at the festival.

The beer was served an a plastic sample cup.

Thin medium brown colored head.

The appearance of the beer was nearly black.

The nose was and taste were near mirrors of each other. There was lots of oak and vanilla flavor, and I also picked up some nutty characteristics at the back.

The mouthfeel was perfect, medium bodied and very smooth.

Overall an excellent beer and a great surprise from a brewery that I had not yet tried until this day.
