Really enjoyed this one. Black with a nice brown head. Smell of ginger, cinnamon and peppers. Taste follows. Nice creamy mouthfeel, balance of flavors between the ginger, cinnamon and moderate spice from the peppers. Not too boozy like some of their recent offerings.

Green wax capped 22oz bottle from LambicPentameter (thanks man!). No apparent bottling date but I believe this was a holiday 2015 release. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku.

Pours oil black with two and a quarter fingers of pale tan head. The froth shrinks back tk a milky surface haze and jagged collar that deposits a few scattered clouds of lace.

The distinct aroma of milk sugar leads and is joined by cinnamon, cocoa and a very subtle oaky bourbon.

Cinnamon is right up front in the flavor with notes of milk chocolate, sweet lactose, a slight smoked pepper heat, ginger, subtle bourbon tinged vanilla, caramel and oak. Surprisingly, given the style, I detect little to no booze and almost no barrel presence. Tasty and easy to drink.

Smooth, creamy, medium full body with silky, soft carbonation. Aftertaste of ginger, cinnamon and milk chocolate covered chipotles.

My first brew from Witch's Hat is a clear demonstration that they can brew some damn fine beer. The Mexican chocolate stout is perhaps an increasingly overdone style but the use of ginger here separates Bourbon Barrel Furious Ginger from the herd. I'm glad I had the opportunity to try this and would recommend it as an interesting variation on the popular spiced stout style.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, 2017 vintage. Slight gusher opener. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky tan head with awesome retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, vanilla, cream, toffee, fudge brownie, marshmallow, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, chipotle peppers, bourbon, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of coconut, licorice, molasses, dark fruit, smoke, char, herbal, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Touch of booze in the aroma as it warmed, but very minimal. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, lactose, spices, and bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, vanilla, cream, toffee, fudge brownie, marshmallow, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, chipotle peppers, bourbon, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of coconut, licorice, molasses, dark fruit, smoke, char, herbal, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Mild herbal/roast/char bitterness and pepper/bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, vanilla, cream, toffee, fudge brownie, marshmallow, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, chipotle peppers, bourbon, toasted oak, dark/brown bread, light molasses/dark fruit, herbal, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, lactose, spices, and bourbon barrel flavors; with an amazing roasted bitter/sweet and pepper/bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with no cloying/acrid flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from bitter/spiciness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warmth/barrel booze for 11%. Lightly increasing pepper heat through the glass. Overall this is an amazing barrel aged spiced imperial stout! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, lactose, spices, and bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV with the mildly bitter/spicy finish. The over carbonation was only a slight detriment to mouthfeel, would have definitely bumped the score up if it were lower. Still felt really silky. This tastes exactly like BBA fudge/spice cookies. Amazing balance of rich malts and spices, with perfect barrel integration. Not overwhelming on any aspect. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing dessert style stout as expected. Definitely want to try a bottle with lower carbonation in the future.
