Poured from the can into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Deep orange amber body color, good clarity, with an excellent glow, and large amounts of roaring fine carbonation from the bottom. Excellent head formation off the pour, with big clumping and retention, some swiss cheese like appearances, and big bubblebath foaming white character. Great looking IPA.

Juicy hop front nose, with a hint of dank and soft earth quality. Mild pine softness coming out, and a thick malt depth that gives a good sugar maple like sweetness but not too large. Slightly weedy and spicy, but the sweet sugar notes really balance it out nicely.

Palate comes a little more simply, but nice. Light bodied chewy feelings, but a bit of juice and quenching quality for feel. Mid palate washes with a very light caramel, even almost powdery, but then zips into thick hop airy musty weed and earth. Smokey like aftertaste, with a bit of pine softness not unlike expected from the nose. Malt action is kind of neutral, and stays out of the way to make the hops take front stage, but also doesn't add much else to the flavor.

Overall a solid mild dank angle for an IPA with a good memorable quality. Good decent IPA brew.

Nice orange copper colour with a white soapy head of good retention and some lacing. Nose wafts a blend of pine resin and rind. Taste is more lemon and rind with a decent bitterness on the swallow and only slight linger. Medium bodied with fairly sharp carbonation.

12oz can, another cool memento (and drinkable at that!) from quality time spent at the Idaho Pour Authority in Sandpoint, Idaho.

This beer pours a hazy, pale golden amber colour, with a teeming tower of puffy, aggressively foamy, and bubbly off-white head, which leaves some decent sudsy rising cloud pattern lace around the glass as it steadily abates.

It smells of sharp citrus rind (orange, lemon, and underripe white grapefruit), a less than certain tree bark woodiness, subtly spicy yeast, grainy pale malt, an ethereal suggestion of caramel sweetness, and further leafy, floral, and mildly perfumed hops. The taste is bready, faintly crackery pale and caramel malts, pine resin and needle forest representation, acrid, if well-blended citrus pith, a small hardy stoniness, and more leafy, herbal, and pleasantly floral hops.

The carbonation is obviously quite lively in its boisterous and probing, fizzy and frothy double barrels (not the aging kind, duh), the body an adequate medium weight, and not particularly smooth, those pesky hops stepping on more than a few toes here. It finishes trending dry, the malt trying to hold onto the bottom falling out, while the hops develop a hint of smug in their demeanour.

A tasty, vibrant, and a bit wild (in manner, not in yeast profile, in case y'all were scratching yer heads) American IPA - maybe it's the zesty hops, maybe it's the sneaky 14-proof alcohol, whatever, I'm liking this, and now feeling wistful about a trip to Bend a few years ago that still lingers in my mind, for beer and many other reasons.
