Appearance: Pours a deep, clear, and rich amber color that almost leans brown. A strong light tan head that is creamy, thick, and heavy. Lasts for a while. (4.25)
Aroma: Moderate aromas of rich, baked bread, caramel. Hints of earthy and woodsy qualities. (4.00)
Flavor: Strong flavors of dark bread, sweet caramel, smooth and sweet syrup and notes of toffee. There's a woodsy, smokey, and earthy note to it Smooth and rich. Leans sweet, but reasonably dry and drinkable. (4.25)
Feel: Medium to heavier bodied, average carbonation. Smooth, leans sweet. Hides the alcohol extremely well. (4.25)
Compared to Founders Dirty Bastard 12/2023: Pours darker, milder head. More earthy black malt and smoke. More woodsy. Less sweet caramel.
Overall: Don't come across a whole lot of Scottish Ales. This is the most reviewed on BeerAdvocate and I noticed I hadn't tried it before. It's definitely big, malty, and sweet. Darker than I expected, but enjoyable. Almost reminds me of a doppelbock. Bread, caramel, and toffee flavors. Yet, it hides the alcohol extremely well. A cool name, great can art as always, and a surprisingly fantastic beer. (Rating: 4.19)

Tastes like a slightly less sweet Speculoos cookie. Extremely malty, with a porter-y roast on the malt. Crisp-caramelized dark brown sugar or molasses / malt syrup flavor. Not much aroma, zero hops in the aroma, just a little molasses-y "Boston brown bread" smell. Cozy, autumnal, quite a nice example of the style. One of my preferred malt-forward beers. A bit too syrupy for my taste, but I might change my tune when the weather turns cold.

Pours a dark brown, with a foamy head which settles. Caramel, malty, nicely balanced, not too hoppy. Do I detect a little bit of candy in the taste? Hides its alcohol. Well-balanced and delicious.

Received as part of a mixer sixer Christmas gift, my buddy left the price tag on and this rang up at just under $3 bucks. The only other Three Floyds beer I've had was the hard to come by Dark Lord stout, which won my approval. This one pours out nice deep brown with a small little head that quickly recedes to the outer edges of the glass. Smell is heavy on the malt, stings the nose a bit with some pepper and spice. The taste is very mellow, full of malt, slightly bitter to balance it out. Some roastiness. Apart from that, there's not a whole lot of big taste here. It's a very unassuming ale, no bold flavor, no statement made. Mouthfeel is medium, with a minimum of carbonation. I would consider this a workhorse beer - one the blue collars drink to relax on the weekends. Nothing fancy, nothing remarkable, just gets the job done. Maybe i don't know what Scottish ales are supposed to taste like, but I'm not particularly impressed with this one. It just doesn't stand out. It's an everyday, run-of-the-mill brew. But hey, I'll drink it. Cheers.

Poured into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass.
Appearance: Amber brown, generous head that lingers long, significant lacing.
Nose: Sweet combination of fresh and dried fruit.
Mouthfeel: Medium heavy.
Attack: Follows the nose, with a slight bitterness to balance, a bit of coffee, a bit of peat; alcohol evident.
Finish: Slight bitterness.
Overall: An excellent sipper I’m enjoying by itself following a cool autumn morning of bowhunting. So far my clear favorite in this style.
