A-Semi clear orange with nice lacing.

S-Fruity, apple like notes. Some tartness.

T-Note sure if it is balanced. Applely sweetness with mild tartness.

M-Lighter and not much carbonation.

O-An interesting beer but does not do much.

This was served on tap at Three Floyds Brewery & Pub in Munster, Indiana. Arriving in a generic half-sized chalice, this one showed a surprisingly dark honey brown coloring. A one finger head of eggnog colored foam sat atop the liquid, showing okay retention into clunky, chunky patterns of craters stretching across the walls of the glass. A definite haze reduced clarity, but no sediment was noted. Carbonation appeared to be on the lighter side of moderate. The aroma sung of a pale and caramel malt base to play off a blend of cold nail polish remover, coffee creamer, white sugar and tannic honey, big sake boozy coolness, apricot, brass, smoked and neglected toffee and candy corn sugariness, white pumpkin sugars, heavy strawberry jelly cloy, simple charcoal smoke, and peanut dust. The flavoring came next with burnt gingerbread, pumpkin spice, cherry, raspberry, and strawberry organic fruitiness and syrupy cloy, offensive dark chocolate muck, adjuncty white flour, spicy browned apple cider, pencil eraser, Dijon mustard, light butterscotch cloy, avocado and walnut oils, boozy black pepper, sake ethanol burn, daisy and black eyed Susan petals, and green lentil vegetals. The body was thicker than expected, and the carbonation remained high. Each sip afforded nice slurp, smack, cream, froth, and pull, with a decent thickness of coating left around the mouth. The palate was otherwise thickly streaked of astringency to its far back. The abv was appropriate, and drinkability was okay.

Overall, this was sake as beer if one could ever imagine it. While this is an imaginative concept, this beer seemed rushed and rough about the edges, but ultimately well-flavored. Generally speaking you receive the exact beer that is advertised. The grain bill, from the very beginning, is intensely foreign and unabashed, forcing the mouth and taste buds into an uncomfortable conformity that you soon quickly learn to appreciate. The feel is intensely drying between globs of lactic foaminess secondary to the sake component of the beer. This certainly makes things come across as a little boozy, that push to the liquor side of life adds a hard edge to this beer that you can curiously get behind, even if you don’t particularly enjoy that.
